watering for outside plants

just wondering how often do you water your outdoor plants i know when it gets dry but how often and how much water should you use for each plant?

2 times a week if it is really hot doesnt rain....if it rains i give them 5-6 days depending on how much it rained then i water them

dig down a little if its dry 2-3' in water
