i hear that if you dont put some hydrogen peroxide in your water, algie will grow and discolor and smell up your water. i hear an oz per gallon from some people. that would mean 2 small bottles per res fill. is that correct? is there another way to prevent algie from growing? just another newbie question, thanks for any and all input.:leaf:

you need to buy some more potent h2o2, normally u can get it from a local hydro store but the rate to use the 50% h2o2 at is 1ml per liter every 3-4 days

what is h202?

Hydrogen peroxide.

You dont need it and dont have to use it unless you encounter root rot. I grow DWC and am 3 weeks in flower and have yet to use it. Keep your reservoir clean, good temperature, and light proof and you probably wont need h202

Nicely put Beaver.. The key is to keep that resy, the medium, and grow containers as light proof as possible.. algae can only grow where it see's light..

Also.. h2o2 is useful cause it kills almost all fungi and bacteria by providing a highly aerobic environment even beneficial ones .. so this makes a lot of really good rooting stimulators ineffective because it kills some of the bacteria in them..

happy growin

thanks you guys. i do have a black trash can as a res with a lid on it, but i have a small hole where the pvc for my drip comes out the top. you think that will let enough light in to grow algae? i use coco as a medium and i hear you cant overwater therefor you wont get root rot? if thats true should i just not use the h202? will the algae harm my ladys in any way? i just want to get a full understanding of whats going on, thans alot for all the help.

The more light proof the better, sounds like a small hole but always shoot for no light at all (obviously).. should be alright

It can and most likely will play home to these little fuckers called "fungus gnats" (arguably the worst possibility cause their larvae eat away at the roots) & they are almost guaranteed if you get algae..
The standard algae pyrethium isn't as neccessarily bad for the girlsif it doesn't get too overdeveloped as it's nasty twin: algae sludge.. the difference is that the sludge will multiply rediculously fast and coat everything (including the roots) and really start killing your plants .. you'll know the difference cause the sludge smells terribly FOUL..

If ya have any more ?'s....

I have found that adding 1 tsp per gal. of solution per day of common 3% drug store h2o2 is cheap insurance along with keeping res temps under 65f.

"The key to big productive plants is a big healthy root system and Hydrogen Peroxide is a great way to keep your roots healthy. It is a must to ensure the biggest best crops possible and to increase the chances of your plants thriving to harvest. Peroxide users will rarely lose plants or crops to root disease and will harvest larger and more consistent crops."

Never encountered a reason to use it to date. If your setup is A ok then there shouldn't be a requirement. It also makes a lot of flowering boosters useless

Great info in that link Larry! Thanks

H202 is mainly used to increase oxygen rates within the reservoir. I only use H202 when I experience root rot. A good preventative measure is to make sure enough oxygen is getting into your reservoir. A good way to do so is by adding another pump if need be.
