i hear some recipes that call for boiling water and butter together to make the cannabutter,, and some without using water. what is the best way to make cannabutter? why 2 different ways? and which is the better way of making cannabutter?

I would lean towards NOT using water, or at least not using much.
The water isn't absorbing any THC, so why use it? Maybe to keep it from burning? I dunno

I would say just use butter, and keep a careful eye on it so it doesn't get all burned and nasty. Goodluck!

The water resisst the butter from getting to hot which vaporizes the thc and the water also absorsbes the contaminetes which makes the butter have a bad taste and a upset stomch so i think its easier to use water becasue it dosnt hurt thc dont disolve in fat ...

I've only made cannabutter once but I used the method with water for the same reason GreenLeaf suggested. I've also read that you can get a smaller amount of butter to absorb more THC this way.

Water is also used to increase the volume of the mix - imagine an oz of herb in 2 sticks of butter - not much room in there.

ok,, decided to use keif in my next batch of butter.. im figuring a shot glass full (1 fl oz) per stick of butter. now if i decide to use water im going to have to strain it,, what would i use for something as fine and powdery as keif? dont think cheesecloth with work,, any suggestions? should i not even use water and just simmer with the butter? and mostly,, will this be enough keif to mess me up?

eating too much food befor cookie can reduce high. eat less, or 'fast' befor eating cookie it will feel more potent

you need more weed than that. when they say one oz. it doesn't mean volume, it means weight. one oz. of weed per 2lb. of butter sounds more like it. thats why your butter wasn't strong enought.

You dont need weed or keif at all. I use clippings and trimmings, stems, etc. Use the water method and cheesecloth. You can put as much thc in the butter as you want. Just make sure you let it simmer for like an hour then strain with the cheesecloth and stick it in the fridge. Let the butter coagulate on the top( all the bad tasting/shit you dont need will stay in the water. Dump the water and restart the whole thing with the butter you got off of the water...

Ive seriously made cookies with one 6' plants CLIPPINGS and they fucked everyone up.

Of course keif and buds will make stronger butter. But myself id rather fire that up!!!

Hope this helps.

Don't use water unless you have the time to let it separate. When only using butter, you can strain out the weed (or leave it in if you like crunchy) and then use the butter immediately in whatever you're baking.

I use water. It keeps the butter from burning. My ratio is 2 times the weight in butter to cannabis (2 pounds butter, 1 pound cannabis). Use enough water to cover the cannabis.

You can use trimmings, fan leaves, twigs but you'll have to reduce the butter since those parts have very little THC. Its better to start with good quality tops and make a really strong butter concentrate.

Cooking time is about five to eight hours on simmer not boil. You have to watch this so the water doesn't boil away. Put a flame tamer under the pot if you use a gas stove to spread the heat evenly. Add more water as it evaporates.

If you dont have water your butter will eventually begin to brown and burn where this would just taste awful go buy a crockpot at big lots or something and add 1/4 oz good bud to 2 sticks of butter and 2 cups water and set for lowto med low heat and cook for 8 hrs it works for me perfectly every time

ak- 8 hours of simmering weed gives off quite the "aroma". I used to cook my crop every fall in my apartment (stayed up all night). What an smell but no one ever said a thing. Lucky I guess especially with the cop shop just down the block.

The butter has the most beautiful green color.

i just burn some incense and ignor it no one can smell it out side and keep the lid on the crockpot and put it under you ovens hood that usually vent to the roof. And you can keep it in a airtight container for about a couple weeks so dont make more than you can use since butter is so high in fat it has a tendincy to go rancid quickly
