Water Only Organic[For Noobs&Boobs]

Aloha everyone,

So after some hard thinking, I have finally decided to start growing outside again and try giving organics a shot. I am hoping to find a good soil recipe that will only require me to add pHed water to it through out the flower cycle. If I do need to supplement(due to heavy feeding, a few strains may turn out to be this way), I will amend with an organic liquid fertilizer that I have, it is an all purpose, 4-3-3 by Down to Earth.

I have read lots of forum posts on various, "super-soil" recipes on multiple threads (lots&lots of reading). I have compiled my own rudimentary list of ingredients due to my location and store availability. I know it is not perfect, but valid input is appreciated on my recipe and how I can further improve it. I am also hoping to re-use my organic soil, and further amend it/compost it. When the recycling of the soil comes about, I will be using alot of my natural organic material ( Chicken shit from my chickens, etc. )

How I grow& current set-up(In case you were wondering):

Set up in Veg- I grow in a 3x3x6 grow box, 4'' inline exhaust fan, under a 250 mH (6500 K, 21000 Lumens), light is in a cool tube, 18 in oscillating fan, 10 gal igloo reservoir(8x 3inch ports for clones), 4- port Eco Air pump.

Nutrients in Veg- Dyna Gro Pro-Tek, Dyna Gro Foliage-Pro, and Botanicare Cal- Mag +. Every now and then I will swap out Cal-Mag + for the Dyna Grow Mag-Pro, because of the higher P, when my girls start showing signs of P deficiency. IF this happens, which is RARE, and certain strains etc... my clones are usually pretty established, big roots and are usually 24 inches tall at least.

Transitioning from veg--> bloom- Hydroponic DWC method, pH @ 5.8, ppm= 200-300 . After about 4 weeks in the cloner, for the last 3 plants, I place them in pro mix (50/50 with perlite) and let them recover for about 2weeks in a 1-gal pot, and then I transplant into 3.5 gallon pots to finish. I was using DG Gro-Bloom mixes for flower in DWC buckets. Too much maintence for my time constraints and too frustrating.

Flower Recipe:
-1.5 cubic feet of FFOF
-1.5 cubic feet of Pro-Mix BX
-7.5 OZ(roughly 1.5 cups) of Tropical Bloom Organic fertilizer made by local nursery(it has bat guano, sea bird guano, blood and bone meal etc etc...lots of good organic stuff and trace minerals), the numbers are : 3-27.3-17.4. Recommended dosage was 1 TBSP for 6 inch net pot, thus after some math, I came out with 7.5 oz(TBSP-->OZ) for 3 cubic feet.
- I will be adding into this mix, a beneficial bacteria tea, which I use for my Hydro-Veg rez and outdoor veggies. That mix is : EWC (fine bits), Alaskan humic soil, Aqua Shield, Molasses, Bokasi Mushroom granules, and Great White Powder. I will also take the contents of the sock(roughly a big two big handfuls of EWC and Alaskan)and mix it with my organic flower batch.
-1 cup of dolomite lime
-will add perlite when I am ready to transplant to flower pots.
- will probably let it cook for @ least 2 weeks.

So, what are your guys two cents on my flower mix? Is this mix too hot, or is it sustainable enough for flowering and only adding water(and maybe mollasses). Appreciate it!

PS- I have not had any problems transplanting the veg girls from DWC to promix. I really moisten the pro-mix first before transplanting, and then water again once the dirt is on them. I was thinking I would let them get established in a pot (No DG nutes, as to prevent salt build up/ flush before bloom) and then place them into their flower pot for 2 weeks, and then throw them outside.

Here is some aloha love for boobs !
I love boobs! and weed!

Disclaimer - I don't grow outdoors, don't use your nutes, etc., but here are some misc thoughts
  • you are doing DWC for clones now, going to continue?
  • your soil receipe looks a bit off.
    • lot of base soil (OF, promix)
    • minor amendments (I don't know this tropical bloom fertilizer [careful converting from volume to mass..], but I don't think this will be enough
    • no extra ewc, compost?
    • consider using a standard receipe (e.g, subcool's supersoil), or at least compare the receipes with your plan & consider adjusting

Good luck on your outdoor grow!

Your mix looks pretty good. One thing though-the Great White-myco fungi? If so you should hold off putting it in your mix prior to cooking. Myco fungi need living roots to survive and are highly unlikely to survive the temperatures during the cooking process. You can mix it in prior to transplant and sprinkle it onto the root ball.
What strain will you be running?

That tropical organic bloom fertilizer looks a little out of whack IMO. 3-27-17 seems exceptionally heavy on phosphorus and potash. I think you'd be better off with something more balanced. One of the Espoma "tone" products would be fine and inexpensive to buy.

I agree. A balanced tea throughout the entire life cycle has worked for me. Easy and cheap.

Shoots, thanks everyone. Appreciate it, well, so just some other notes for some of the responses. I figured the high P and K elements were due to the guano and other amendments this guy maybe using in the mix. Due to the high P and K, i have also got a 4-6-4 turkey liter compost mix, i will check to see if their is EWC as well. I do amend with EWC too, or at least I will further in my new home made compost batch.

I am growing the Northern Lights and Grape God in the organic mix, they have about another week left of recovery before they go to their new homes.

Thanks for the info on mycos , thats a good point about the heat killing bennies, totally spaced that. I use the tricoderma, specifically the Basakai mushroom granuales in my DWC units to combat pythium. Ever since I started adding this and the Ancient Forest knock off, it really helped with root rot. Plus, my roots exploded :). I will try and post some pics tomorrow and give you guys some examples of what I am workin with,

Once again, thanks everyone!!

Hey guys. Sorry for the weird sideways pics. My laptop crashed, so all I have is an iPad at the moment. The first pic is my 5 gal bubble cloner with rooted clones that are 3 weeks old, the next pic is my other bubble cloner with 2 week old plants, followed by my nirvana NL, which I am actually thinking of trashing(not the one in the planter) but the clones. The next pic, is my Grape God, the heartiest of my girls.

The ones in the pots were transplanted today, so that picture was taken like 20 min ago(8 hours after transplant), so far they are responding nicely. if you were wondering what is with the yellowing leaves on my Northern Lights, I flushed her a week ago of most of the DG nutes before transplanting.

They are transplanted in 3 gallon Smart Warrior Pots, with the flowering mix posted above. Though, I did add some more perlite than I originally planned. I figured better safe that sorry, and went ahead and added more like 40% perlite, so my soil dries evenly in these "wet" months of winter in Hawaii.

I am thinking about letting them recover for another 7 days before throwing them out in flower. I will be adding a benne bacteria tea on this Friday.

That is too much perlite i think. Someone else will chime in though so dont take my word for it.

Good luck, your girls look good :)
