water from Dehumidifier???

So i am sitting in a 5x5 tent with my Quatum board LED panels with my first ever photo grow after a few waves of autos... I am using Autopots with airdomes also...

as the week 8 & 9 approached i noticed the plants as they became hugely prolific the temps and Humidity went way up and the water consumption skyrocketed. this grow we are trying to contain in a spare bedroom
well, I just happened to have a frigidare 70 pint dehumidifier. so i set it up and let er run and next thing i know i am pulling 5 gallons in a 24 hour cycle... thats just damned near what the plants are drinking, so i get to thinking for about 2 seconds, and thought hey!!! so i am currently using Advanced nutrients GMB with a few supplinments including Calcium and magnesium everything seems to be moving just fine ... but as I lay awake at night ... i am wondering if anyone else has done that? used reclaimed water from the dehumidifier, and are there any thoughts on the pros and cons of doing so.

the main thing i think about is it get us away from the chlorine and fluoride added to our city water... in a way its like catching rain water re-condensed water vapor from the room.

any thoughts?

You can just make sure its not funky

And test the ph and ppm.

But im not totally sure as i just dump mine

But i have thought of using it before .

Just keep in mind it might behave like ro water and so you might want to add some calmag :)

Only concern would be if since its wayer from a condenser

Is if the condenser material somehow leeches into the water?

hey thanks for the reply!

Good points, i use Cal MAg always....

and the point you made regarding leaching.... hmmm thats a real thinking point there. I know in the world of distillation of alcohol, lead based solder is a no no for hot alcohol vapor, and silver based, lead free solder is OK and other than that its copper tubing... so looks like a question for the manufacture of the dehumidifier which may be a tough one to solicit a reply.

cheers

I use mine daily to water. The pH will most likely be around 7. The only real concern I see making sure the coils are fairly clean. I give mine a good simple green douche once a year with a hose in the driveway. I doubt lead or anything from the manufacturing process is of much concern once you run it a few times.

yeah i was kinda doing the deep think out loud.

in a hot alcohol vapor lead would be more of a concern than with cold water condensation.

cool thanks for the feedback. it has been nice to salvage the water i thought hmmm this is truly recycling

those coils are lead lined toxic tunnels possibly. just say no, its not drinking water, valves, hoses, lines, coils....all nothing to do with china food standards even. At best they are traps for molds

good read there... i understand the mold can be a problem... best check the hygiene of the coils as far as mold goes...

I've been watering plants with dehumidifier water for years without any issue. Clean out the sump of your unit with hot water & vinegar every few months and you'll have no problem. I mean there are better water sources to choose from but the plants need 2 parts hydrogen 1 part oxygen and dehuey water certainly fits the bill. You do need to add macros but other than that it's fine. It is not at all like collecting rain as rainwater has macros and is active with microbial life. I collect rain and snow runoff too when I can to avoid using chlorine laden city tap water. If you are growing in organic soil usng deheuy water is really a no brainer but if you grow hydro then just use regular old tap water.

its interesting my 6 plants eat about 5 gallons in a little over a day and thats about the same as the dehumidifier reclaims....
before i started running it the humidity was running 92% in my tent, so i put my charcoal filter with inline fan inside venting to the room and run the dehumidifier i realized its just a nutrient delivery system. i been using multi container nutes... but will be changing to a comprehensive one stop nute. and i always use cal/ mag

thanks for the reply
