Water Curing

Hey folks, kind of fact up my first indoor grow and managed to get a case of bud rot @ a very late stage (about a week to go :S ) Anyways I've followed instructions on other forums, cut out not only the infected buds but the whole stems, and stuck in jars of H20 for the water torture! (feels totally counter intuitive but apparently the mould culture will drown without any oxygen...
Anyways it remains to be seen if this will actually work, even if it doesn't, I've lost nothing and gained some lessons for the next grow...my main questions are regarding the loss of scent/taste - this is a bit of a killer for me as the strain was the most piff smelling lemon kush - the main reason I choose it was for the flavour - Im wondering if theres any way to introduce other flavours to the water to turn the loss of smell into a blessing.
Lemon or orange are obvious choices, although Id be worried that the acid might mess with the the somehow, what about cognac, or cinnamon sticks - even essential oils, although Id be worried about inhaling them.
Has anyone experimented with different flavours in their water cures?

I just finished my first water curing. draining and filling the water daily for 7 days. The smell of the buds became horrible (almost like actual poo!) I dry'd the buds in a dehydrator on its lowest setting hoping for the smell to go away. This was not the case. The buds are horrible smelling and im almost scared to smoke it (it smells the bad). Iv read this has happened to some other people but just giving you the heads up that this might happen even following all the steps perfectly.

I am not a fan of water curing and it takes practice..Yeah do not use a dehydrator your gonna need a dehumidifer and if its done right your smell will come back but for me its too much work for no gain and A loss in quality. There are a few tutorials on the site as we went over this back in 2008 and 2009 for a few folks who were interested.

hmm a resounding dont do it then!!! Im half way through the process for the infected stems I cut off, so far they aren't smelling to bad, although I did get hints of that pooey smell outdoor mentioned (bit like gone off coriander). At the end of the day even if it doesn't work its not the end of the world as the rot would have ruined the crop anyways.
Im not really sure what to do with the rest of the plants, Im pretty sure they're both infected, Ive been running the fan on them 24/7 for the last week + thus far there have been no brown buds, but Im cutting off brown leaves almost every day and the lovely lemon smell has all but vanished (it started smelling more like durban, now the smells almost disappeared) their pretty much ready to chop, but Im worried if I hang dry the brown rot will kill them dead, what do you think peeps?
My water cure is due to finish on Tuesday, so Im thinking maybe to keep the other plants in darkness and see if water cropping the way for all of them.
Another thought is that technique where u wash the freshly cut buds in hydrogen peroxide, but I don't know if that only works for mildew.
Any feedback or ideas would be massively appreciated

Water curing buds can be fantastic, you remove more chlorophyll and other organic matter from the buds increasing the potency by decreasing the overall size and weight of the bud.

I am a fan of the lack of smell, and I do not water cure for a full week. Easy to smoke with a bit of tobacco in a public place.

If your bud smells like shit, it's because you're draining them and then filling, that or packing your buds in there.

Loosely place the buds in, make sure you weigh them down. I place a sheet of plexi glass in to the water to hold them under. If any of your buds are touching oxygen than there is no wonder it smells like shit.

long story short the cure went well, no more mould (although I wonder if thats more of a coincidence) sand even a hint of smell (although virtually no taste) one prollm was I think I left em in front of the dehumidifier a lil bit too long (got stoned and fell asleep!) so by morning they were crispy as hell, however I put em in a jar with some slightly moist buds and now they burn lovely, its not an ideal solution but defiantly something I'll be doing with about 20percent of each crop to allow the rest time to cure before I tuck in! Ive also read it works much better with hashy tasting buds rather than fruity ones, so really looking forward to seeing what it does to my next paki kush crop! Thanks for all the advice folks - keep spreading that knowledge x

water cure is not a bad way to save a crop that may have had a problem. I would even suggest giving it a try before making cannabutter, its great at getting ride of the cloro taste that cannabutter can have. you can do to bud that got mold and and get rid of the mold before making a good hash as well. It really makes the smoke not have much taste to it but it does seem to be potent.

I water cured a branch from my last harvest and it turned out surprisingly well. What I ended up with smelled fairly strongly of lemons, even though the air dried buds don't really smell anything like lemons at all it's much more floral and fruity. Even so the very lemony smell and taste surprised me.

yes due to lack of oxygen the mold spore die. they float to top of water, you dump water out daily (can do more often) do not let buds float or get exposed to air or your mold will get worse, exept when you are exchanging the water.
