Warning: This Is A Rant (A California Rant)

Hey everyone, allow me to re-introduce myself, I am sams0n and I am elite!

Can all the Californian's checking in please help me out.

I am a native NY'er. I have lived in San Diego but did not get see much else of California, actually, I didn't leave Pacific Beach. San Diego was definatly not for me. Besides the actual beach and some excellent fishing, I was totally unimpressed with quality of life there.

I've been doing some research and I am seriously considering making the move back to California. This time I want to do it right. I have matured a lot since I was last there and have since become engaged. My fiance and I are sick of big city living and are ready to start a new life together somewhere less hectic (at least slightly).

We are thinking about moving to Steinbeck Country! Well actually, anywhere from Big Sur to as far north as Arcata. Our fantasy future home exists in a place located very near the ocean, in a clearing in a forest, secluded and private, yet commutable distance to some small city.

Dont know where to look for information so I thought I'd throw it out here (now that I am so elite!). Wikipedia can only tell you so much about a city and I am hoping that the prices and selection on craigslist are only representing a small portion of potential rentals.

Ok how about this, What is the weather like in Arcata/Eureka during the winter. How much should rent should I expect to pay for a secluded, 2/3 bedroom house on a decent chunk of property, set in a breathtaking location?

the weather is temperate - i miss the fall fog, i remember a lot of that and rain. not too far to the snow though. been too long since i've been there for me to tell you housing prices but if your from ny the culture shock may get you. muscle cars and rodeos baby - I call my first marriage 'tales from the hick'.

too all the n. cal growers i just pissed off.... sorry maybe it's changed in the last 10 years. and yes i didn't feel the need for capitilsation tonight.

rodeos? where?

your to far north west. go south east about 45 mins. look at cloverdale. where you are looking is coastal. it's nice, i love it but it's always damp from the fog. if you get inland just a little the evenings stay warm. check the cloverdale area and surrounding towns. i think you'll love it.

I lived in Folsom, Chico, and Burlingame. Burlingame was awesome if you can afford it. Otherwise Chico atmosphere was the best.
Sac is HOT, anything away from the water is HOT.
Anything between LA and San Fran on 101 is cool, and anything north of golden gate on 101 is cool as long as you aren't commuting. Traffic is a bitch. North of San Fran everything I have ever seen along the coast is beautiful...I would live almost anywhere there all the way up to Portland.
