Warehouse lighting questions

Hey guys

I'm looking at setting up a cheap lighting system so reading different posts it sounds like warehouse lighting can be a cheap alternative. I was looking at this one but had a question or 2:

So from what i've heard you can remove the ballast on top, is this difficult? I also heard turning it sideways is the best, is this worth taking off the reflector? Can I use a conversion bulb to get hps in something like this? I was thinking of maybe getting 2, one mh for vegging, one conversion hps for flowering.

Any thoughts?

I would check with cooper lighting and see if its possible. Looking at the pic, it seems that the ballast will support a 400W bulb, but double checking doesn't hurt. For most of your regular growing the lamp should be placed sideways but you have to make sure the bulbs that you get are sideways burning bulbs. If you training a plant to climb like a vine, the upright burning is used. I would check out amazon and gyo supply. They sell a fairly inexpensive MH and HPS with digital ballast setup for around 120 bucks. The reflector is kinda cheap, but thats an easy upgrade for a digital ballast and two bulbs.

If your capable of using handtools it would be very easy to McGuyver thoose things to your liking.
It would take ME about an hour each to strip 'em down, remote the ballast and rig up an air cooled hood.
Your experiance may differ...........
