first of all, they are reagan phones.

second of all, reagan did a lot of focus groups focusing on how to court the racist southern vote. the result he found was to focus on solely means-tested entitlements like food stamps and welfare and reaganphones and section 8, rather than broad-based entitlements like social security or medicare.

the reason why was because means-tested entitlements had certain ugly racial connotations tied to them, while the broad-based entitlements did not.

I saw a photo that UB posted in a different thread:


Most of the people in this photo are baby boomers and now in their early 60's. Can you identify the ones that are now southern republicans? The winner gets a one pint bottle of Aunt Jemima's maple syrup!

The fella in the white shirt and the fella with the cigarette in his mouth.

The guy with the black shirt with the creepy stare is most definitely in jail for a series of pedo crimes.
