Vortex vs H.O. Can Fans

I'm considering a 6" inline fan and a carbon filter. I'm pretty settled on the filter; 38 special 50 (420 cfm, 47lbs), but can't decide which fan. The vortex warranty is twice as long, 10 years vs 5 on the Can. The Can H.O 6" is 440 cfm, the Vortex 6" is 450. Opinions on this setup? thanks guys!

I like the Vortex fan, its just kinda big. Ive had experience with the can fans and the didnt really seem to have the suction power I needed. The impeller is bigger on the Vortex. Worked better for me thats all. Is thge can fan really 45lbs

Get neither. Get a Max Fan instead. Move more air, use less electricity. I'll never go back to anything else.

My flower room is only 73 cubic feet. The max fans are 8"+ all my ducting is 6". I thought 400cfm was overkill, 675 is just insane!

Bump... any other opinions?

They're kinda loud. I have two vortex fans going, and when I shut the door of the room they're in, I can only slightly hear a hum.

But man, they move a lot of air, you won't have any heat problems with these boys. The can fans are a bit over priced imo.

I did some research on the fans and the vortex is more quite than the can fan and was a little cheaper at my store than the can fan. I have a 6 inc vortex hooked up to a speed control and i love it with my air cooled hood and can filter 33. I can set the speed and it controls the heat and the smell. also with the fan not going at full speed it really helps with the noise. hopes this helps.

htg sells vortex style fans from growbright for like $75 compared to a can fan same size 186 bucks. Even a vortex brand fan of the same size is still cheaper than a can fan.

You can go with a 675, and use a dial so you can control the speed, and you'll end up moving just as much air if you turn it down(and it will be much quieter) than running a smaller one at full blast.

I know the vortex are slightly cheaper and twice the warranty (5 vs 10). The critisms I hear about vortex are they don't supply pressure cures like fan to indicate how well the fans deal with a 'load'. There's also a youtube of them facing off and the can winning, but I take that for a grain of salt considering they can spin up differently. Is it worth buying your fan at the local shop for warranty sake? Right now I'm leaning towards the can. Online cost diff is about 30 dollars and I know it will work well paired with the 38 special 50 can filter. Last minute opinions?

Decided on the Can 8" Max Fan, 675cfm...235 shipped from growlightexpress.com. Going to get a 6->8" collar and hook it up above my closet. I'm also going to grab a 'speedster' and lower it to about half speed. Should consume about 80-100 watts in this configuration. Figure it will be plenty for a 38 special 50, I could even get a 75 if I need more volume. I like buying stuff with a little room for expansion, never know where the future will take you.

Performance of vortex fan is better than other due to it's power and vibration free operation. You can stay with Atmosphere Inc. They have vortex fans and Pro-filters too

I am looking at buying one of these, they look like a quality fan and come with a speed control.

They look quiet and easy on energy, anyone using one of these?

but then my friend got a can fan and i bet it would be good enough if you can design it all properly. the inline fan is nice cause if i need to i can turn it all the way up; although they're normally turned all the way down

Couple thoughts....for 73 cubic feet that is a huge fan/filter setup, no? Suck the door off the hinges? LOL But seriously, using a speed controller may not be a good idea. The fan and filter have to be matched properly because if the air is moving too fast or too slow through the filter it won't get scrubbed...it will still stink, I learned the hard way. Having said that, I've matched my filter/fan combo and it still blowing dankness out the window...kind of disappointed, but it's better than before...
