Vortex inline fans Question

Who owns one? I thinking of getting the Vortex Inline Fan 6" VTX600. I heard these are like the best fans, are they? Are they loud? I think I found a good deal for $170.... The thing is I'm kind of strapped for cash right now. If I get the vortex fan I wouldn't be able to buy a carbon filter. I also have the option of buying a fan and combo filter for the same price. Here's the combo package on ebay... http://www.ebay.com/itm/400267682172?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_8737wt_1160 If you had $170 to spend on venting for your grow room which way would you go??? Is it possible to buy a fan now and hook up a filter later, for when the buds start to stink so good????

1. If sound is an issue you should check out the S&P TD Silent series. I'm running one and it's amazing; 75% quieter than the Vortex.
2. Yes, I did the same thing. Installed my filter around 1 month in from seed. Even at 1 month (still in veg) the smell was noticable, but I'm scrubbing, not venting outside. Used the Ona Gel to hobble my way through until the filter showed up.

i would say that fan will be quite loud compared to others .. but to be sure just check up on the specifications of each model it will show the noise db level you can compare them

it is a 6inch turbo type fan they remove a lot of air for the size , almost as much as a standard 8 inch inline fan
turbo type fans will either have a large fan inside 8inch blowing through a 6 inch outlet, or a smaller fan spinning much faster than a regular 6 inch, the result is a fair bit of noise
they are great if you don't have or want an outlet any larger than 6 inch and you want the max power possible
although
if you can use an 8 inch outlet an 8 inch inline fan on a speed controller , or a standard 6 inch fan if that is powerful enough for you needs, they will both make less noise

you can reduce the noise by a huge amount by just putting the fan in a box , you could build a professional type soundproof enclosure very cheap
or even ghetto style a cardboard box with the fan wrapped up in a fire resistant blanket works wonders and will save you lots of money on buying a silenced fan

peace
