i have an onyx plant, one of the autoflowering strains from short stuff seeds. the last few times i have grown auto plants i got consistantly a little over an ounce for all 3 previous plants (pakistan ryder, autoblueberry, blue himalayan diesel. i waited last to plant this onyx seed because it was said to grow at least 90cm tall, but my plant is almost done and looks like about 4 grams of dried bud, i showed this plant the same love i showed all the others but it seems this onyx plant is a runt. has anybody else ever had this problem

IMGP2386-2.jpgIMGP2389-2.jpgIMGP2383-2.jpgi am growing onyx right now and mine got big. one is 20" and the other i got to 30" by giving veg nutes a little longer.
i have talked a lot about this strain and its sister mi5 with their breeder, Stitch. great guy and an amazing breeder, i am a big fan of his work. i was impressed with the details of this strain. and it is named after his dog fyi haha.

where are you growing, indoor or out? if indoor what kind of setup. what soil and what nutes? what are the ph of the soil and water?

also, if your soil is nutrient rich like fox farm ocean forest or something, it can burn the seedlings a little which causes stunted growth.

here are some of my current girls. first time growing these strains and very impressed. the one on the left is my first onyx, the second one is my other onyx which is taller but younger, the last one is an mi5. it is the sister to onyx

nice plants knubs. What soil do you recommend? I will be starting all my autos in the General Hydro rapid rooter organic plugs first....first time using those plugs, then trans the plugs after a week or so depending how everything looks into FF ocean soil. I have three diff strains of autos.... first time using autos. Curious if this method will be fine to start my autos.

Also, is it just the onyx strain that will be stunted by the hi nutrient level in the FF ocean? I ask only because when i germinate, I wait for the tap root to be about an inch and place the seedling directly onto the FF soil in a little pot, having no problems. I have been reading about the potential stunted growth with autos, thus the reason why I bought the plugs, to "ease" the transition, but I dont feel I ever had a "rough" trans using the method I just explained. Mind you I am looking to move to Roots Organic soil once this FF is finished, heard great things. Thanks.....

There is genetic variation in each seed, regardless of what breeder or which strain you choose. This includes the possibility of mutations including, but not limited to, stunted growth and slow maturation. You got a bunk bean, plant another.

I also have a Runt...2 of the four I planted literally has over 15 tops the other 2 planted at the same time are 1/2 that size but steadily bashing out. I have 7 Hbd and 5 onyx under a 600 watt HPS and to be honest they are all ontop of one another. The Runt onyx is only about 8" tall and starting to flower while my largest is 36 tall and round. My himalayan blue diesel are showing their parents individual traits as well one is very blue and one is very dieselish it is nearly 4 feet tall and a week or so behind in flowering. They are supposed.to get up to maybe 20" or so ..my shortest is 25" now. They are still 2 or 3 weeks away from finishing. I have asked others that grow short stuff to see if there is others who have these monster autos. From what I can tell from past experience that threre is already a couple of oz's on one onyx.
