Very Sick Plants! Help!!!

Hi all, I'm in a spot of bother... I have some sick plants, using the canna coco range nutes and medium sticking to the grow chart. ph 6.0 ec 1.3 they all started off fine but then leaves started to dry out and die with light brown spots appearing, I started to think this was nutrient burn? So I decided to flush them with half strength nutes but not much has changed and its still appearing. This has caused one plant to loose most of its leaves and the others aren't looking like they're going to take long to catch up. Also new growth has stopped which I suppose it obviously would encountering these problems! Please help!!!

Damn that looks bad, id use a weak solution of nutes like 5-10% not no nutes at all dont wanna throw her into shock.
Are you using tap water? Have u supplemented with calmag at all?

Try RO water for a week or so. You might want to switch.

are the leave supposed to be wet? could be some light burn although i would get PPM tester to check for hard water then maybe try RO (reverse osmosis if you didn't know)

Iron deficient? Only had this issue once in my soil (vegi) garden. I wasn't sure if it was magnesium or iron so I did two foliar sprays, ferrous sulfate and magnesium sulfate (Epsom.) Went bright green and started growing again within 2 days, added some more to base of plant with watering for the rest of season.

Looks both burnt and iron deficient. Maybe too much nutes locked out iron?

Looks like Mg def. If it is around 4 weeks, I would bet on it, and tell you to use some Calmag, but if you have hard water it shouldn't be an issue. I'm assuming you have well water, if it is hard. I would try to get a test and see what's up with the water that you use. RO might be the way to go, or you can use a Brita water filter if you could get away with it. Wish you luck

Hard water almost always means plenty of calcium, if his is especially high in calcium and not very high in magnesium and iron, he could get lockout depending on the nutes used.

Either way, I doubt he needs calcium, assuming your right on Magnesium vs Iron he should just use Epsom to water and foliar them.

Edit: You should have more available iron and magnesium at a PH of 5.5 as another alternative.

looks like it needs cal mag... if thats hydro then it needs to be in the 5.5 - 5.8 range

Don't add any more calcium, you don't need cal mag, you need mag or iron mag, but no cal, lol. Plus Epsom is a lot cheaper, like $2.50 a pound, at any pharmacy, walmart, target, menards, ...

If you grow anything and you don't have a bag of epsom, you are still a newb.

Had a similar problem with my current grow, not as bad but the looks of the leaves is the same. What fixed it was calibrating my pH meter. After I calibrated the meter I checked the pH of the existing water and it was just below 4.0. After that plants recovered quickly.

Ive just bought a high quality bluelab ph pen so definitely not that, plus a few weeks ago plants where fine. Luckily I have some epsom salts here will post back and let ya'll no the outcome....Really really appreciate the help thanks guys!!!

So, did you have it for plants or for the woman's foot soaking?

Also I've been sticking to the canna gorw chart and it says ph between 5.8-6.2? Could this be my problem?!

Ive had mg problems before when growing in soil...I have a really crap water supply here

5.8 is high for the low end. You want lower for magnesium. It doesn't have to stay static though. The plants buffer nutrients to some extent, so if you let/make your ph swing slowly from 5.2 to 6.5 you can be sure it won't be deficient in anything, ever, unless it's simply not in the res. I let mine swing in that approx range, but try to keep the time it's over 6.0 fairly short, like just over night, then start adjusting down. If you averaged out my PH over the week it would be about 5.6, but would have been as low as around 5.0 and as high as 6.8.

Need either the water quality report numbers from your city or at least a PPM of your tap water. If you have water with > 250-300PPM, you will need to know what's in it for good results. If your water is really that horrible, I would bet that you have super excessive calcium and it's blocking the magnesium. You would have to go even lower PH than normal to extract the Mag with excessive calcium present.

How bad do your shower heads look?

Shower head and shower cubicle has limsecale depostis, also the sink and plug holes! Just looking into buying a brita filter! Also coincidentally my ec pen has packed up but from memory the ec of my tap water is 0.2?

That is less than 150ppm. That wouldn't cause an issue. If your water is the issue, your memory is most likely off.

Anyway, ignore the PH recommendations on the nutes and stick between 5.2 and 6.0. Add some magnesium too, then check back in 48.
