Vertical or horizontal lights with shades??

If you run shades on vertical lights or use shades with cool tubes on a horizontal method, which might be better?

Right now I have vertical lights hung down between the plants which is I think the best.

But I have heat issues so I was thinking of cooltubes and running fresh air into them and exhausting outside and still hanging them inbetween rather than directly on top of each plant.
