Vegging with HPS???

I am sure the info I am Looking For is here somewhere, but my searches have done me no good. What I am curious about, is this. I have a 400 watt HPS light that I would like to use to veg my plants. I know it is not as good as metal halide, but it has to be better than the CFL's I have been using. My little operation has grown to where I need more light, but right now I cant afford a MH light. So, instead of buying more CFL's, I want to wait a couple of weeks until I will be able to get what I want(400 watt MH). This should be OK to do for a while shouldnt it?

u can vag under HPS man. jus make sure that it's well vented and cooled and place it as close as possible to the tops...otherwise the plants will strech!!

Thanks for the replies. The reason I dont go with the conversion bulb is, I have two seperate areas to grow in. I have a veg closet (2'x6'x7') and a flowering room(12'x12'x7'). I need two light setups so I can do a perpetual harvest kind of thing. My first 6 plants are 2 or 3 weeks away from being put into a 12/12 cycle, so I guess I will just move them into the flowering roon along with the CFL's and put it on a 24/7 cycle till its time to flower. By then I should have a MH light and will get on schedule so I can harvest about every two weeks.

$$ is a BIG issue. Thats why I am doing a semi-ghetto grow. But, when I set up my HPS light this aft., I realized that what I have is a 430w Son Agro setup. It has enough of the blue-green light to do exactly what I need to do right now. It had been in storage for a few years between grows and I had forgotten what I had. Now, when I get enough $ to get my MH light, I will be set up pretty good. I also installed a window AC unit in the flowering room and that should help too.

da 430 does have dat 30% blue, it's not nessacary to have a MH just an luxuary. Cant wait fo you to open a diary bra.

I intend to keep the mothers and the clones in the same room. But from everything I have read, I think I will get better results if I use CFL's and a MH in the veg room. I will light the tops of the plants with the MH, and use CFL's to bottom light them. Maybe a little overkill, but you cant have too much light.
