You know, I bet most of us grow some pretty awesome weed, whether you use 18/6, 24/0, or 24/24(??? one day on, one day off??? idk about that one)
Truthfully I use a 16/8 for a few reasons; 1)definitely the light bill 2)no noticable difference in growth from 18/6 3)J.Cervantes says that a light cycle with less light in the veg state produces more females (i cant find the page or else id cite it but its in the 5th ed. Mari. horti. the indo/outdo med. grow bible) and 4) I was monitoring my plants and I noticed that towards the 17th-18th hour of light my plants started to weep a bit (droop), and they didn't have that health positive tropism that I like to see, so I gradually turned the lights down to 16 hours/day.

I dont think that the speed you gain from growing 24/0 outweighs what you lose by not turning off the lights. Im just old school like that.
But after reading this I am gonna give a second look at the idea of growing 24/0.

and 12-12 is just fine too.......

Why you wanna go for 24/24, i have tried the my last grows with 22/2 and 18/6, but 24/24 is not the best during flowering, as the plants required some period of darkness for a better growth.
Let me know your progress, Hope the best..
lol. please tell us more. have you ever flowered successfully?

This is one of the most interesting threads about time periods I have read. I always struggle with figuring out the times from seed to veg then veg to flower. When a seed states flowering time 10 weeks, Is that the whole growth period. Right from seed to finish or do they mean 10 weeks after vegging? How long do you folks typically veg before switching to 12/12?
Also some of you do not even veg? So you go from seed @ 12/12 right through to flower on the same cycle? What is the typical time frame with that light set up?

I am hoping to clear some of my questions up and this thread is mighty interesting. Kudos.

Thats pretty good. Do you have to grow that way or do you prefer to?
could just veg then change lights but i like to keep it simple and dont like lights on when not here and i like to just add plants when i want....was doing veg under enviro for a couple of weeks before moving under an hps but the only difference i noticed was more leaves but no extra bud really................

i do 12-12 from seed, was under a 400 hps now a 600 hps. 10 weeks means 10 weeks from start of flower to finish , ive had orange bud and hash bombs done within 11 weeks start to finish and given me 2 oz dry per plant........ i get 2-3 oz dry per plant

Hi Del, I want to ask you if you have an even canopy with seed and if so what strain as whenever I plant a bunch of seeds I usually get the uneven canopy due to the pheno differences. hence I clone and flower 32x 4 inchers at a time finishing at 14-16 inches. I've just begun to realise that it may just be down to strain. Also I have always grown seed on 12/12 and gotten plants that finished consistently between 3-5ft depending on the strain.

my canopy is all over the place cause im kind of perpetual, i just stand them on a pot, my nortern lights look even sizes though and were started together. i like clones too but i like a mix of breeds so seeds are best for me. also want to breed again. to stop stretch i start under enviro and try and wait til they start flowering before putting in final pot, also hit them with pk to encourage filling out instead of upward growth. if that fails i simply tie the top over once and it usually cures the problem. i have a thread called the 12-12 from seed thread, take a look if you find the time mate......

Thanks I've seen it already, we grow for very different reasons and have very different styles we employ. I do put my clones under fluoros for the first 2 weeks but then straight under the 600 HPS and find that there is a excellent distance between the nodes during that stretch period the first 2-3 weeks into flower, about 30-40mm. They fill out perfectly into a single cola consistently. I suppose with seed you get the variety though which is a big bonus!!

He never mentioned anything with flowering.. pretty much for light cycles If one didnt have a good ventilation system I'd allow enough time for the bulb to cool down because 24 hours the lights just on all day man. so not only do you give time for bulb to cool but you save money while at it :]

Good points, but Ed actually promotes 24/0 for a 33% faster vegetative period.

I just looked up the Mari Horti indoor/outdoor book and on page 38, he states he has learned the 24 hour lighting has been shown to increase the amount of growth in a shorter time frame.

Are you really saving money? 24 hour lighting will get you out of the veg stage 33% faster than 16 hour timing.

I've read this whole thread with great interest, reading the various points of view. Don't remmeber where I got all my early info on growing years ago, but happy that I've been using 24/0 on ALL my strains until moving to the flowering room.....I do know that I just couldn't justify flipping a switch turning off the little manufacturing processes of my plants....this thread has confirmed I've been doing it right all along.......

Do you have the 12-12 from seed link handy? I tried to find it in advanced search but that comes up with nothing. That search needs a bit of tweaking imo
