Veg clones in Smart pots

Good day guys,

I have small clones in rockwool roots out, they need to veg bigger before I put them in Ebb and grow system.
I wonder whats the best way to veg them? the veg tent is 3x3. I need to veg at least 12 plants for the Ebb system.
Now I have some 3 gal mart pots.
I wonder if I can Veg them in smart pot with straight hydroton, and cut some holes on smart pot when I put them in Ebb system?
Can I just hand water them daily, make it kind of drain and waste?
Can I collect the drain water and use it to feed next day?
In soil people usually dont feed them every time they water. Do I need to water them with nutes everyday?

I havent decide how am I gonna veg them now, but I can not build another hydro system for veg, because I must have chiller to have res temp under control. Im still open for the best way to veg them
any feedbacks are welcome
Happy grow

Im doing ebb and grow and i veg on a flood table either in the grow pots and just slide them in for flower
Thanks for the feedback.
I know it would be nice to have flood table nice, I actually think about have another EBB system for veg.
but maintain the res temp would be a big problem for me. and I dont want to use another chiller cuz I feel like I already use a lot of electricity.
thats why I want to do smart pots with hydroton, and hand water it daily.
wondering if that could work.

Any feedback still welcome guys
really appreciate that~

@ligrow you dont need to cut holes in smartpots they are fabric pots which allow roots to grow throigh them and you should look into coco its a great medium to use in general for a ebb and flow allot of people just use larger rockwool cubes in hydroton coco is simple and is just like hydro without the bells and whistles i do think Vader Og also has a similiar setup check em out on youtube

I use a cooler as a res. I have a 4ft 6 bulb t5 and my Temps stay at 80. Res stays around 65 and 70 max

Thanks for all the info
I never use coco before, last night I transplant clones to the smart pots.
I use rockwool and hydroton 3:7
so no flood table no res. right now.
I am still figure out what feeding schedule do I need, as I need to hand water them.

I also have problem with t5, I leave it 15-18 inches above the plants. still too much heat on the top.
My fixture is 4 feet with 8 tubes, i can not trun on all 8 tubes, because of the heat issue.
I wonder How close for t5 fixture for veg the plants?

Just took some shots earlier today.

@Dear ol" Thankful Grower! thanks for the feedback again
I already had one fan there, probably not big enough. I can feel heat even when fan blowing under the my lighting fixture.

what I am curious is, when I heard people talk about t8, they always say is less heat than HPS.
I use HPS with cool hood, I would say its less heat than t8 in my case.

When use T8, distance between lights and plants should be as close as possible
but mine is 15-18 inches above the plants. pretty much the same distance I use for 400watt HPS, and thats only 4 tubes on
If I turn on all 8 tubes, would have more heat, which I have to hang the light higher.
I dont think I am on the right track. Please correct my mistake.

I would also like to know how to water them by hand. I would not have them transplant into my ebb system until next month.
so they will be veg in smart pot for a month or so.
Im not sure do I treat them like hydro or soil?
I know when soil we need PH in higher range. and in soil I usually go feed-water-feed. I dont feed them with nutes every time I water.
Im not sure what do I have to do with those plants in smart pots fill with 70%hydroton 30%rockwool

Any feedbacks are welcome
really appreciate all the help here

Well do you have an intake and outake correctly matched? That usually seems to be the issue not enough cool air in or hot air out thats bout it and like i sai just raise your humidity in veg treat plants like the medium you use it with its a regular pot just made with fabric so your roots can breath you outta do some research buddy alot of these questions there are threads about so take a look around th forums good luck to ya!

I Have 6" exhaust dont know the CFM, its 54watt one. I have one 6" intake hole open, and another square hole with screen open for intake.
Do you think it could be my exhaust fan not strong enough? or I should have the exhaust vent direct under the light?
my RH is around 60-70% do you still raise it?
Sorry for all these noob questions. really appreciated your time read and sharing the knowledge!

Good day guys,

It's been 17 days after I put those clones in smart pot. Under 4 t5. I water them every three day. With GH 3 parts EC 0.4. Still looking some def. here.

I also have another plant in soil veg in the same tent. Have to wait another week I harvest my 5x5 tent. Then one soil one will get in veg in the 5x5 for another week or so to fit in the scrog net then flip. I know the big pot there, sure block some light for those clones in smart pots. But I seems like they are having def. once soil pot go to 5x5 tent
I will have 12 buckets ebb and grow in this 4x4 tent. Veg for another month, then go to 10x5 tent. Want to make sure I have every thing on track before I put them in ebb and grow system

I never know how to use t5 tho...
More problem when using that, I can not identify def. when using t5. There are like 20" above the top of my soil pot. So at least 30" for those clones in smart pot. 54watt each and four bulbs total 216 watt on 24hours. I was expect t5 can have less heat, also less watt use. Now I'm thinking get another cob panel for veg now. If you have any experienced set up t5 in small tent. Pls share with me how you did it

Soil one doesn't look happy to me either.
So lower turned yellow. Some upper leaves have tip brown. Also some clones in jiffy there are actually doing pretty well. Only give them water, nothing else.
