So I've been doing some research on UVB light and it's affect on trichome development and potency. It seems that people are pretty much in agreement that UVB increases potency.

However, I have not seen much in the way of actual usage and safety. I'm wondering if a reptile light would work. It puts out UVB light.

Another piece of info I have failed to come up with is how many watts and how long to leave the light on.

I realize UVB is destructive in high doses so I've heard of ppl hitting the plants for 20 mins a day and getting results. Still, I would like to know if anyone has done this and if so, can you give some details. Thanks

MH bulbs produce some UV. Some people talk about using a 2:1 HPS:MH ratio in flower with great success.

If you're looking for a straight up UV bulb, check out http://www.reptileuv.com/

Agreed, it will stimulate I higher trichrome production, in turn potentially meaning more flavor, or smell, etc but the potency is a genetic trait encoded in its dna there is nothing short of genetic modification anyone can do to drastically increase thc content. But its increased my hash yields probably .4 grams an ounce if that helps sale ya at all, I give it 3 hours everyday in half hour incriments, I rigged a switch to my doorframe that shuts the light off when the door opens should I need to do something in there while its on. Fairly cheap and easy just don't expose urself and all should be ok.

Thanks for caring, but I was under the impression that trichomes house THC and the CBDs. Yes, that doesn't mean that the THC content of that resin is high, but it does mean there's more THC than if you hadn't used the UVB. Thus, UVB makes the marijuana more potent. Forgive me if I'm wrong. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just trying to get it right. Here is the beginning of the Cannabis Culture article I cited earlier:

:blsmoke:I'm def. looking in to this UVB lighting. Subbed Too Hear More Info. I understand how it would produce more trichs it makes sense. But potency is genetics time and time again! It probably helps produce diff. cannabinoids too, To make it to its potential.

41 did you read what you posted to prove your point

trichome production is not necessarily an indication of a potent plant.

this is a cut and past from your post

Potency is 'sealed in genetically' if you're growing the plant to 100% of it's potential. Based on the topics around this forum, I'd guess about 5% of the posters here are actually capable of doing this. If UVB light helps a grower's plant reach it's full potential, there will be an increase in quality (potency).

I have been using UVB reptile bulbs for about 18 months. I use a timer to turn it on for about 3 hours during the middle part of the day. I have no idea if it increases potency because I have nothing of my own to compare it to. So now I am going to skip the UVB and see what happens.

I have heard some say that UVB is most effective to mature the trichs during late flowering, but personally I don't like couch lock so maybe I will end up not using it. I have noticed that when my friend grows the exact same cuts under super HPS they seem just as potent and resinous as ever.
