Using the sea of green method

So I was looking into doing the sea of green method. I did alot of research and I am slightly fuzzy on the whole picture.

But to my understanding I have a pretty good Idea based on some post in this forum and outside info. however I rather ask the expert ( those who done it) to make sure I understand the whole operation.

After all whats the point in spend 1000 dollars and then f up on a small lil minor problem.

So the sea of green pretty much works like this:

You purchase your lovely seeds.

Germinate them the right method

Then run them under florescent lighting intill ready to bigger light.

To do this method you need a mother plant, so I of course out of the seeds take the best one and use that as the mother plant for my clones.

Now I guess your suppose to have a cycle where your plants are at various stages of growth so that way you can have a continous cycle harvest every few weeks or so.

The goal of SOG ( Sea of Green) is rather then have 4 large plants but to have 12 small plants give or take. with this said it take less time for the plants to mature.

with using small plants for my indoor closet operation I plan on cutting the bottom branches and using those for clones as well.

i written this article to see if I generally understand the idea of this method. I still seem quite fuzzy on some things. howeveR I am getting there. Soon I will have enough knowledge to get things moving in the right direction. I appreciate everyones input and help on this.

Now the mother plant should be the one where I take my clonese from because that would be the best plant correct? eveuntally the mother plant would have to be replaced possibly of its own clone.

Is there a way to make your clones more potent or less likely to have any problems in growing. I keep comparing growing like breeding dogs. Could that be a good analogy?

Sounds like you got it to me. The only want to make more "potent" or less problematic clones is to have a mother that is more potent and less promlematic. Clones are the same genetic makeup as their mother plant, so choice of your mother makes a big difference. With some strains that aren't stabilized you get different phenotypes. One may yield low and be potent, one may yield high but have a less enjoyable or potent high, one may have a great yield AND high and any other desirable characteristics. So basically choice of mother plant can be pretty important. Stabilized genetics should be much more homogenous and predictable.

With that being said when I do receive the 10 seeds. which is big bud strain what should I look for when choosing the mother plant?

I wont be able to find out if it is a female or male until later on in growing stages. I am sure that out of the 10 seeds 1 0r 2 may die or not germinate.

Once I find out if it is a female the clone would take several days to switch back to the vegetative stage to continue growth. but then at least I know that it be a female clone and then I can start early for picking clones.

Now what if I wanted to do some breeding possible in breeding of the bid bud strain? afterall we can make these strains more potent by cross breeding them right? What about in breeding what kind of results if any could one get?

You could also figure out the males/females by taking a clone and flowering that. Therefore you get some practice cloning and revegging is really stressful on plants and causes a lot of down time before it's back and ready to do it's thing. Plants don't necessarily get more potent through breeding. There's so many different variables and when you breed it's going to give you many different phenotypes. Breeding a plant with a more potent plant could make it more potent, or it could not. It's a tricky thing to get good results and takes a lot of time and work.

So I can take a clown and then rush it into flowering stage to find out if it is a female o r male?

When I cut the plant for the clone how long should I wait after I dip it in clone gel and put in growing media ( I plan on having hydroponic ebb n flow set up) How long should I wait to then but the clone into flowering stage?

I read up on breeding and man that is something else... crazy like chemistry you need to know what your doing to get good results. I probably wont mess with breeding untill marijuana becomes legalize.

Hey thanks alot for your input on this. Its helping me out alot.. as much info i may know I am still hazy on some thhing and thats why I joined this forum I figured you guys help out throughout the whole process.
