I am about to start my second ever grow and would like some advice. But first a little history. My first grow was very experimental and I kind of just let things play out to get a first hand experience with the plant and how it grows. I ended up with 3 AK48 females at flower, and 1 bagseed female that looks like some sativa. It's still finishing up and is taking quite a bit longer than the AK48s. Just pulled the 3 female AK48s so still awaiting a dry weight. The bagseed was from some reggy full of seeds. The high wasnt too bad back then, so I thought I'd grab some to keep and give them a shot some day. I still have some laying around because I didn't give it near the environment it would have liked.
My first grow I just used FF Ocean Forest with no nutes in 3 gal plastic pots, and vegged for a long time. I also just let them grow naturally, until I had to pull down the bagseed female during flowering because it got so tall. I'm pretty sure they ran out of nutes and root space, as well as got too close to the light.
This next grow I have made my own soil with added amendments. Equal parts EWC, Perlite, and Peat Moss, with dolomite lime added. The amendments are kelp meal, alfalfa meal, and a mix of Epsoma's tomato tone and bio-tone starter plus. I also added Glacial Rock Dust. I hope this will provide all of the necessary nutes for the entire grow.
I also plan to implement the SCROG technique for the Female Seeds C99 I'm getting from the tude. I hear they do really well with SCROG, which seems to be a good option for increasing yield in my limited height and single grow room.
Now having said that I was wondering, for a SCROG setup in a literal 3'x3'x5' box how much would I benefit from buying air pots (or maybe even smart pots)? Are 4 plants too much or too little for 3x3x5 (including pot height, reflector, and distance from bulb)? If I get air pots should I get the 5 gal or 3 gal equivalent, and how many plants should run in a 3x3?
I would really appreciate any input regarding these pots and my setup. I'm not quite sure how it works in regards to planning number of plants, just the supposed benefits of the product for root mass.
