using 8 light control board for just 2 lights.

looking for the optimal set up here. These are 2 digital 1000w digital ballast being run off a titan controls 8 light board.

So i have an extra 8 light control board, and want to run just 2 lights off it for veg.
My buddy, who has worked with an electrician for years, is going to help me set it up. Normally an 8 light control board would need a 50 amp breaker, and 8 awg wire, hardwired to my circuit breaker panel.
He is telling me, since I'm only running 2 lights the wire going to the box, and breaker don't need to be full size. i don't need the 50 amp breaker. Covering the non used outlets, and set it to a smaller breaker would be safer? The breaker would flip, if too much was plugged in (which would never happen, but just in case). I don't have room on my circuit breaker panel for another 50 amps, and outside of buying a smaller light control box, this would be the best option.

Is this correct?

Go to the hydro store and trade down to a 4. Or just sell it and have your electrician make you a panel for 2 lights.

I think that's correct, should be fine as long as the wire is big enough for the breaker used, like12 awg on a 20 amp breaker.

Ok, so this wouldn't work?
It will, just curious why you have a 8 light controller but plan to use only 2. It's just better to get a smaller one if you ain't going to use it at all. The money saved you can buy something else for the room
