Use a 4in or 6in fan / carbon filter for a 4x2x5 grow tent?

Hey all,

Looking for input on the right size fan and carbon filter for odor control for my 4x2x5' grow tent. HTG has a 4" fan/filter combo for $140 and I think that would be fine since my grow tent only has 40 cubic feet of space and the fan is rated for 170cfm.

Is my theory sound? A 6" just seems to be overkill at 424cfm.

I would look at it more as "Do I wanna hope this will work" or "Do I wanna know this will work" if you're answer is the first one get the 4" if its the 2nd get the 6"

I started off with a 4" only to upgrade to a 6 inch carbon filter fan. I'm using a 409 watt h p s and I found that the 4" was ineffective I can get better air movement with the 6" . It's easier to buy larger than you think you need

No idea. I have some hydrofarm or something. I use to use a speed controller but there was electrical interference producing a hum in the motor.

looking at can max due to design and ability to be a tad quieter

If any of you guys grow in a similar sized tent and can give me links to the fan and filters you use that would be most helpful.

Also pictures would be awesome too so I can get an idea of space used and how to mount it in my tent.

Depends on your lights. I currently grow in a 2x4x5' DIY cabinet, using 4" Inline fans for incoming and exhaust with a DIY carbon filter during flowering. Works great in that space but I'm using LED's. With HPS/HID you'd probably want to go 6"…

Yeah I'm LED/CFL setup so heat isn't an issue.

I would personally go with the 6" with scrubber. Then get a controller if needed. This way you can control the fan speed and also the flow threw the scrubber. Will also allow you to upgrade later to a larger bulb and be able to still control your air flow. Plus usually the 6" kits have a larger scrubber if stank is an issue where you are at. The bigger you go the more possibilities are available. Kinda like a spend once use twice kinda thing.

I would go with 6 inch.

I use hydro farm active air inline with a cheap filter that's rated higher com then my fan

Just need to know what works and what to avoid here guys. What brands are you guys using?
I actually got two 6 inch fans. One is a hydro farm active air, the other is a ventech both are 6 inch and work just as good and both have the same amount of noise.
