People spend their disposable income.

if people are spending money then business are needed to take that money.

That means those businesses need staff

Those staff and those businesses pay tax.

Govt and the new staff have disposable income....

mmmmm..of cause its a good thing..just bad for those who control the monopoly and those who control the monopoly control the media, politicians and lobby groups who tell you its all bad.

I have always found it funny that one of the main examples to not increase min wage in America is Mcdonalds workers.

But Mcdonalds does fine around the world paying their workers allot more than the asking price of the min wage in America.

So, if they can and do thrive paying more money per hour in other countries I would imagine they would in America to.

I'd bet they'd do even better, because more people would be able to afford to buy their food. When you consider that, it seems blatantly short sighted to be against a higher minimum wage!

Nearly all the arguments against revolve around the individual business owner's higher costs. None address the idea that if everyone has more buying power, everyone's business is likely to do better, due to higher demand.

This last idea is called 'demand side economics' and has been working for a lot longer than the supply siders' bullshit.

I once heard a story of an Admiral who wanted to build a ship in (lets call it America) America.

The govt said no, no its way to expensive lets build it in (lets call it Italy) Italy.

The Admiral said but building the ship here is free. Building it in Italy will cost millions.

he then went on to say that if he built it in America, using American steel, American workers and all American "stuff". It would create employment, Shops would open to cater for the workers. The business they get the materials, stock and goods from would also need more workers and shops would open to cater for them to. Lunch shops, coffee shops, bars etc etc etc These shops would need staff. Its a huge roll on effect.
All these business and all those staff and all the workers would be paying tax. Not only those bushiness but also the business that the business need supplies from. Everyone working, paying tax and spending disposable income.
The ship is free. All that tax paid for it.

Strangely enough, we're now buying ships and military hardware from foreign countries.

Worse, we've outsourced the bulk of our manufacturing to other countries.

Not only has this cost taxes, but prosperity for our nation and our citizens.

I think people using McDonalds as an example are using it because I could train a chimpanzee to do that job.

And yet people doing it still deserve a living wage, do they not?
Absolutely

I know how they did it, but why millions of poor/middle-class, blue collar Americans ever accepted the idea that there should be people in society who work full time, 40 hours a week, and still not be able to support themselves on their salary is OK is something I simply can't wrap my head around.. I had this conversation with my dad earlier today. He, like millions of other Americans was convinced that "Adults don't work for minimum wage. Those jobs are for high school kids.".. The more facts I provided, the angrier he got. You can't even have a conversation about this with some people without them erupting into rage. Their salary is what they agreed to, they're lazy, they should get an education, etc. facts mean nothing in this arena and many members show us that here every day.

Facts mean everything. The self deluded merely deny them- and then pay the consequences. If enough self deluded people get together, they can even destroy the civilisation built for them by their less deluded forbears.

I believe we're watching the first acts of this destructive self delusion play out on our political stage even now.

Facts are simple and facts are straight
Facts are lazy and facts are late
Facts all come with points of view
Facts don't do what I want them to
Facts just twist the truth around
Facts are living turned inside out
Facts are getting the best of them
Facts are nothing on the face of things

Still waiting....

Unfortunately, this is what has to be done. "Free market" benefits the 1%. Given a choice, people in control will exploit those they control. This is a hard-wired part of humanity, unfortunately. We need to join the rest of the world to start re-balancing the ledger

You are displaying your ignorance of a few meanings.

You described the present market, which is NOT a free market, rather it is a government enabled cronyistic market.

In a free market, the 1% do not have the advantage of making up the rules in collusion with government, since government and a free market are incongruous terms.

A FREE MARKET is one wherein both buyer and seller make exchanges on a voluntary basis and there isn't a built in and system enforced means of creating duress or unfair advantage.

can you shoot unicorns out of your ass?

try it.

if it doesn't work, rub some free market pixie dust n your ass and try again.

and don't rape any kids. i cannot stress this enough.

I have no need to shoot a unicorn from my ass, besides wouldn't the horn hurt?

Exactly as we're trained when we play Monopoly. It's not enough to have some cash and properties. You can't win unless you take everything from everyone.

What a fucked up game we're all in here

If you don't like monopoly why do you insist that the biggest monopoly there is, reside in the form of a government ?

I eagerly await your informed and unambiguous reply.

It always baffles me that they think that just because they're entitled to make opinions about this issue they somehow think it's a fact.

You would think that the party that always brings up the economy would know this, increasing the minimum wage puts more money in people's pockets who in turn spend it driving the economy, duh!

They know this but GREED prevails from the small business owners to big corporations.

Inflation will come of it like it never even happened. Prices go up small business dies Walmart and McDonald's thrive. It's not going to change shit they will live great on $15 an hour for a year then reality will set in that your dollar can't buy you a bottle of water. Lol

Your argument has a basis in offensive force.

The argument you conveniently ignore is that making other persons business arrangements for them under threat of using offensive against them is the same argument that a prohibitionist uses.

You will of course, not address what I just said, because to acknowledge your controlling behavior could cause you to have to reflect upon it.

At what point in our history was minimum wage the same as a living wage? As long as I have been around, people that worked minimum wage jobs had to work MULTIPLE minimum wage jobs to make a "living wage".

If it does go up to 15 an hour, I am shutting my business down, getting a stupid job at walmart not doing jack shit and make up my income by selling buds. My life would instantly turn almost entirely stress free.

Spoken like someone who has never had to make a budget based on $10k/month. With an attitude like that, you'll do well in life; flipping burgers.
What the fuck are you even talking about? I could spend nearly 50% more than that each month and be broke, but we choose to live off of 8k a month and invest the rest. Low cost of living combined with smart spending and its easy. This dog isn't working to 65 to say the least.

And I can flip a hell of a burger on the bbq.
