Upgrading Grow Cabinet--Your Ideas Please

A couple years ago when I put my cabinet together in my basement, about 80 cubic feet, I committed to a 4" system: an open air hood (400w hps/mh), a 4" 170cfm fan, a filter corresponding in size, 4" ducting. Now I want to upgrade my hood to air-cooled, and upgrade the light to 600w. The new hood would be 6". Can I stick with 4" filter/duct -> increase to 6" hood -> decrease back to 4" duct to 4" fan -> exhaust? Or do I have to reconfigure the whole system to 6", which I don't want to do: more expense (for a new fan and ductwork--I need a new filter anyway) and less room in the cabinet for growth.

Thanks for your ideas.

You can up to 6" and reduce back to 4" , it will work fine, but it may be slightly louder than before. Not a drastic change though . Consider using one of these ! Www.multicult-hydroponics.co.uk

Thanks for the reassurances, and I really did look at your link. The commercial value of that 24 port baby would be huge, even considering the crappy exchange rate. I only grow for me. But I've been wondering about a hobby for when I retire . . .

check what the cfm in you filter is, if you upgrade it will limit your cfm. or wreck your filter. i would just upgrade to a 6 inch system complete.
