Ez All, my reason for building this was 1)Anything off the shelf didn't fit my space, and 2) hoping to sell my place this year so wanted to do something with minimum damage to the flat.

First off bought one of these (£20): http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500002701&langId=-1&searchTerms=FABRIC+COVERED+TIDY+RAIL+SINGLE+WARDROBE+-+BLACK, here's a few pics of it up in the front room: HPIM0892.jpgHPIM0896.jpgHPIM0893.jpg, the material it's made from is quite light weight, it's the stuff they put round cushions or you can buy as pillow protectors - it is not 100% light proof but mine is in a fitted wardrobe which is sealed as well so that's not an issue. The frame itself is stated as being able to support 8 kilos but I reckon it could take a bit more than that.

Next got 2 rolls of this (currently on sale at £6): http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=20001&partNumber=694573&Trail=searchtext%3ERADIATOR+INSULATION, really easy to use, and handily has grid lines over it making straight cuts a doddle!

Whilst the thing was up in the front room I used the pritt pads supplied with the foil to attach it to the outside and cut to measure: HPIM0901.jpgHPIM0900.jpgHPIM0899.jpg

Here's a couple of pics of the grow as was before the install:HPIM0903.jpg HPIM0905.jpgHPIM0906.jpg

Moved the whole thing to the room and dismantled in half (had to as the space is so tight couldn't fit in whole), fitted bottom section in first then added top half (I actually added the poles individually and then put the top brackets back on), HPIM0908.jpgHPIM0914.jpgHPIM0910.jpgHPIM0913.jpgHPIM0915.jpg

before doing this though I had to remove the skirting board to get a bit of extra room and to also make room for the duct I'm going to add in the next week or so for extraction (shall update then as well if there's any interest) was easy to prize off with no damage and so should go back on with no sign of being removed :): HPIM0909.jpg

also it was slightly to high when in there to fit under the existing hanging rail so reversed the footing bracket (the holes for the poles are present on both the top and bottom side, this gave me the extra 20mm I needed ;)): HPIM0911.jpgHPIM0912.jpg

Once this was all done and back together it looked like this: HPIM0917.jpgHPIM0916.jpg

it was time to put the foil up, I had some carpet tape to hand so used this to stick the stuff up at the top and bottom: HPIM0919.jpgHPIM0918.jpgHPIM0920.jpg, with the roll being 50mm itself no cutting of the edges was needed, only lengths, and it was just the right width so it could be tucked behind the poles :D

Had a break for some munch: HPIM0921.jpg

And this is what it looked like finished: View attachment 1428483HPIM0932.jpgHPIM0931.jpg

Just to show the non light proofing, here's a pic with grow light on but room light off (hence long exposure!), no foil on door side but may fit some white plastic sheeting to it : HPIM0928.jpg

here's a pic from a side with foil though, no light leak! HPIM0929.jpg (lol yeah I know it's just black that's the point :)!)

and with outer door shut it's just a wardrobe :) HPIM0930.jpg

All in all about 2 hrs to do and £32 cost, pretty happy with it overall. Let me know what ya think, Mog.

:peace:

lol, munchies have me fixated on that jacket potato! Really great job mate, nobody would have a bloody clue, I would go with an inline fan rather than an RVK to keep the noise levels down, or you could get an RVK and soundproof it.

+rep for you my friend.

cheers matey, yeah that's what I was thinking shame really as the shop I use only do RVKs as a part of their carbon kit, the internet search begins :), although they do say it's inline? PM sent ;)

Cheers PB, go for it mate. Not sure they do a smaller one but they do do a larger one :) Only thing with turning it on the side is that there'll be no central pole for hanging lights etc, but I reckon a piece of 1 x 1 cut to the length or a large curtain pole could be squeezed down the side of the top and bottom brackets to hold it in place and could work (might flex a bit though). Make sure to let us know how you get on :)

Ha cheers Sambo, was planning on getting a DR90 or something and chopping 30cm of each pole to get it in the space but thought I can't spend £100 on something to just saw it up, plus I'd already put the money aside so now I can get some more toys (or put it towards a stealth fan hmm)

Yea mate been thinkin about it with hangin lights an stuff,..... ill let you no for sure!
was in B&Q again today and saw they've got those decorating polls so you can paint your ceiling with a roller for £5 they extend from 1-2m, reckon with a bit of gaffer tape and some persuasion you'd be able to get that in the side and should be sturdyish enough ?

Sorry to bump an older thread but im very interested to see how this has been holding up for ya, I’m in the same position in which i would have to cut a grow tent to fit my cupboard as don’t fancy hacking up something i just paid over £100 for.

Got a few questions
1: What lighting are you using in there?
2: Does the frame support the weight ok?
3: Does it handle the heat ok?

just so you know i bought a 2nd hand 4x4 grow tent on ebay for a few pence less than that so may be worth checking there next time, at least it will be properly heat/light proofed
