I went to walmart to look at CFL's and i dont even know what im looking for. Im assumming all CFLS are the sprial looking lights correct? I got a three pack. It has on there a pic of the spiral light and says 26 watts and then has an = sign and has a pic of a req light bulb and says 100. So do i need to be adding up the spirla numbers for my total wattage? I also saw different types of spiral lights. One said Natural light 6500K and the the other just says general purpose energy smart? The package says each light puts out 1750 lumens. Do i have the right lights?

I'm pretty new to this whole thing but from all the reading I've done this is what I can tell ya. My best Advice is read the living crap outta the CFL forums.

2700K - Used for Flowering time Get 26W or 42W bulbs as many as you can control the temps
6500K - Used for Vegging time. Same as above 26 or 42W bulbs if not bigger !!

Good Luck, I hope that sort of helps. I know what you mean though I was in home depot staring at light bulbs for like 30 minutes wishing I had a laptop and RIU with me lol

Thanks FT, i saw the 6500K Natural Light ones, but i didnt get those....

I was there for about 15 then my kids started breakin light bulbs so i grabbed a pack of three 100 watt general purpose. They put out 1670 lumens each and i have two right now in the box. Plants are only about 2 inches tall right now. Today is day 8. Are these lights gonna be good for now or should i get the 6500K for veg? Im assuming i got the 2700K

You need to get the 6500K for now. Get the 26 watt (100 watt equivalent). At Wal-Mart they are in the blue packs. Use these 24 hours a day until the plants are at least 7-8 inches tall. After this you can get the generic Great Value 23 watt (100 watt equivalent) for flowering and use these with a timer for 12 hours on, 12 hours off. The plants will triple in height before plumping up with buds.

Plant food... different topic.

BTW, You can use bigger bulbs, but they are significantly more expensive than the 23-26 watt + Y-connectors.

Are the "daylight" CFL's 2700K or 6500K? I have both daylight and regular CFL's which I got at Costco. Unfortunately the box doesn't specify the spectrum. Thanks

Okay so i went and exchanged the bulbs i got and got 4 Daylight 6500K. There is also an "18 inch blue spectrum tube light" ( thats what the box said) inside there as well. Space im growing in is about 27 inch high, 23 inch wide and 16 inches deep. This is my first grow but i have been doing my research so im just gonna start out with 2 small plants. I could care less if i got a gram from it. Its the learning experience im looking for. I also plan on doing a scrog grow when ready. Only at day 10 from germination.

I bought some superthrive today but the medium is moist enough, so that will have to wait.

I dont plan on getting any bigger bulbs....maybe a 150 watt cfl for flowering.

The "Daylight" ones i got are 6500K, but mine say it on the box. I dont know enough about the lights to know if they even make 2700K Daylight. I beleive you would just be buying the ones i just returned if they are 2700K, which are not daylight, just general purpose
