Two Questions About Light And Coffee

First, will having the patio light on affect my girls? Should I put in motion detector lights? And two, are coffee grounds good for them? I know some of my other plants love the coffee grounds...so was just wondering if it would be as good for my girls.

I haven't top dressed them in coffee grounds but I am constantly adding them to the soil pile up until I use it in my containers. Patio lights can affect your girls even with motion detectors I would shield them as much as possible from direct expose at night. Maybe some type of hood over the light to direct it in a different direction or something.

Best of Luck

i wouldnt recommend top dressing with un-composted coffee grounds, they are very very acidic and will drastically decrease the PH of your soil, possibly (probably) causing lockout.
throw the coffee grounds in with your compost pile they will break down and become wonderful black nutrient rich organic matter in a few months! then you can add it to your soil mix.
oh and the lights at night will def. affect the plant especially later on in flowering it needs TOTAL darkness to flower, if it gets interupted even for a few minutes you could end up with a hermaphrodite plant!

well thats my 2cents.
good luck

Not being argumentative but outside plants seldom if ever have total darkness as indoor grows. The light receptors in the leaves will turn on when a certain threshold is reached and for a more prolonged exposure than a few seconds. I don't remember exactly but seems to me it is a few minutes. I have had full moons, living in the mountains can be very bright, hermie some sensitive plants. Maybe indoor plants which are accustomed to total darkness and therefor more sensitive I don't really know.
All I am trying to say outdoor plants tend to have much more tolerance to light interuptions IMHO.
I do agree you want it as dark as possible

Thank you. I thought the coffee grounds might be too strong. My gardenia loved them. Helped her turn a darker green, so I thought maybe.....
Anyway, on to the lights. I had a couple plants out back two years ago, and I noticed that every morning, my girls had turned to face the porch light. They turned out beautifully. I live in "the hood" so kind of scared to leave the light off, but I have a dog, so maybe it is time to test her protective nature.
So thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

I've heard of growers that live closer to the equator and experience close to year round 12/12 will flash their plants everynight with a flash light to delay flowering so they can get more veg. growth in before budding. Just a thought

I live at 8.8 degrees north and never heard of that. Native sativas are very long flowering down 16 to 20 weeks, we don't need more time. The sativas at least the ones in the ground under the stars are very light sensitive especially to the length of day since here there is about 50 minutes difference between summer and winter solstice. Flashlights and full moons are hard on use especially the ones at altitude, 2000 meters here.
To control this I am one of the fools that moves their plants inside and out everyday to keep growing outside year round.
Happy Growing

thanks for the REP fumble,
and yes, CF, outdoor plants are much less sensitive to light during the dark period.
maybe its even an Indica/Sativa thing? i mean with a shorter flowering cycle wouldn't it be growing flowers/pistils slightly quicker? therefor it might make the light receptors in the leaves/flowers "turn on" quicker during the night period?
i dunno just speculating really!
anyway +rep for Mr. Canefan too
goodluck to all

So...I didn't feel comfortable with leaving the light off all night. That is just an open invitation. So, what I did was tape a piece of insulated foamboard to the AC right beside the light. It blocks the light from my garden area perfect. It will even leave them in total dark for flowering. Thanks for the advice.
