picked up these two 400w hps's for 10 bucks each. Ive detached the bulb and reflector from the ballast, they run great and i got new bulbs for them too. Any one think these reflectors will be no good with the vertical bulb orientation? Idk thats why i ask, they do give a good foot print though. Lemme kno whatcha think :)

no those hoods are made to hang from a warehouse roof, not 10inches above a canopy. Make sure you wire it good with the right gauge wire and your all good. Good luck JR

If the fixtures put out light, they will in fact grow weed, regardless of the original intended purpose, or the orientation of the bulb.

Growing weed is what you make it. If you have plenty of money, go buy all new stuff, if you are on a tight budget use what is available, IT WILL WORK.

Keep up the good scrounging and hard work and in short order you will have some smoke.

Dude that thing rocks. i have the same light, loud as hell but it works great. you need to rewire it with better or thicker gauge wire or it will get too hot. they need to be hung vert though.mine came without a bulb and i found one for $1.50 and grew this plant up untill about 3 weeks ago when i switched to 2 600 hps. the hoods are fine for 1 or 2 plants, they just dont have a very wide footprint.the first pic is the day i switched over

thanks guys im really pumped, i was runnin a 150w hps in a closet but im moving to new place with more space soooooo more plants are necessary lol
The wire thats on the one in the picture was just for trial to make sure it fired up, im gonna go get a heavy duty extension cord and hack that up for wire.
Sixstring your plant looks amazing, you give me great hope for my next grow! Im going to be going for a small perpetual setup though, thanks for the feedback!
