So I was watching the show DEA on SpikeTV and they raided a house with over 200 plants I believe.

They used a military type Pilotless hover UAV to fly over the house at night and they noticed a substantial glow from the other houses right next to it. The grow was in the basement. The picture they had was of Black and Grey but used Infared-Vision.

Be it though, this house had some crazy lighting, I think something like
6x 1k Bulbs they looked to be HPS, with big reflectors.

They also monitored the houses Electricity, being that the house was only for marijuana growth, the power wasnt too high, but for no family it got them a warrant for search.

-CLIFFS

1. DEA/POLICE dont always use helicopters, sometimes UAV (unmaned air vehicle)

2. They do use thermal vision, but from what ive seen it shows in black and white not that red/purple/yellow/orange, and isnt super super sensitive.

3. Dont grow more than 200 plants in a basement at once, lol. Or be careful.

In my job I sometimes use a handheld infra red camera for my work. It has many different modes including grey scale, some purple one and one with the really cool rainbow colors.

The point is that it is just a way of displaying the infra-read readings for us to interpret and the systems the cops use may have several models/modes that they can utilize.

In our case sometimes the grey scale is easier to detect heat/cooling sources but has nothing to do with the way the actual equipment functions, it is just the display that is colored or black and white readings.

No, it was unmanned air vehicle im quite positive of that, I was in the Army as infantry and we had a few do recon over some patrols we did and thats why I was suprised DEA was using it.

I saw that show to. One thing I did notice is that not only was his house and basement lit up like a christmas tree. But, you could see which rooms in the neighboring houses had lights on and which didn't. Just some food for thought, I was under the impression that Infared couldn't pick up less then 1000 watts. It certainly saw the light from a lamp in the livingroom of the house next door and across the street.

I think they can see more then we think they can...

Ha,i never watch them shit shows, kinda funny seeing the neighborhood i grew up in on tv for a grow op raid.

I watched the link to that stupid show, can one person tell me what they think their learning from that stupid show, the cops arent giving away any secrets for some kind of counter surveilance for grow op's,if anything what their showing on tv is false to the point that we cant obtain useable info.

What is to be learned from the show will not sink in to those who need to take pointers from it.

I to dont take a rocket scientist to figure out how & why that idiot got popped,he looked like a thug & obviously acted a fool around his house & with his neighbors, the heat sig isnt what got him popped, the neighbors OBVIOUSLY dropped a tip to crime stoppers on him.

If there is anything to be learned here its to not dress & act like an asshole,be cool all you want & say it dont matter how you appear,o.........k,wear big ass baggy pants & gangster looking clothes saying its just a style,it makes people look at you & thats not what you want, you want to blend & look harmless in every way, especially if you dont have a regular job to go to,neighbors see that shit, they see alot.

This guy got popped because his neighbors hated his guts & he stood out like a sore thumb,no big survielance,no big investigations,no power company involvement, nothing but the way he looks & the relationship he had with his neighbors.

Lesson learned.............throw the cool gangster clothes in the garbage & replace them with polo shirts & levi jeans that actually fit right, not the kind you can stuff a loaf of bread in every pocket & fit 2 shotguns in the crotch, get rid of the car with the spinner rims & obnoxiously loud (all bass) car stereo that makes your neighbors walls shake when you pull in the driveway & replace it with a volvo with a young republican party bumper sticker on it,make the house look better than when you moved in,who cares if its a rental paint the fukin thing, plant flowers & shit, be decent to your neighbors, dont bring asshole friends over with their loud ass car stereos pissing off the neighbors either, act & look like a non threatening person in every way & most of all be nice to your neighbors.

The grow op bust coulda been avoided if the grower had used even the slightest bit of common sense pertaining to his appearance, his lifestyle & his interaction with the neighborhood & neighbors.

Detroit PD uses manned heilocopters not unmanned drones.

It's like a gun........not a problem until it's pointed at you..........

I saw the show last week. I'm pretty sure they said they did the thermal imaging AFTER someone tipped them off.

its funny because i have watched this show from the start and recently commented that they hadn't busted any grow ops. being from detroit i know there are many in the city. i was surprised to actually see the preview, and waited anxiously for the airing. needless to say i was disappointed because of the lack of info supplied.

anyway, from my understanding, it is illegal for law enforcement to use thermal imaging for the inside of your house UNLESS they secure a warrant first. there must be sufficient evidence in order for them to obtain a warrant...supposedly. we all know cops dont always play fair. they will use fly-overs to gather info, w/o a warrant, then gather (or manufacture) evidence to justify and receive a warrant.

Maybe in the past....but now they can get a look see warrant from a FICA court or just plain out call National security. Doesn't always work, but sure as god made little green nug's, it changes the odds...........and sometimes thats all you've got.

they also fly around in the middle of the afternoon, in residential areas, in copters with large drum-like objects hanging from the lower front end of the chopper. :spew:
Yes they do the dirty bastards.

Good thing my op isnt in a home, fukers can thermal scan all they want they wont get my shit that easy.

I'd like to see Detroit PD fly a drone over thew Cass cooridor, the lunitics that live there would have that fuker shot down & hauled away for scrap metal in less than a minute.

OK... first off.... IR technology used without FIRST obtaining a search warrant has been ruled by the United States Supreme Court as an ILLEGAL SEARCH!

KYLLO V. UNITED STATES

Second... our Military (God bless and keep them all safe!!!) is tied up and tapped out in a little war over in the Middle East Desert. Hell we don't even have enough National Guard here on American soil to keep the illegals from Mexico from flooding in with their massive pounds of ditch weed... yet you think we are utilizing military "unmanned" plane ops to bust grow houses? LAUGHABLE!!

FUCK... get your facts straight before you post nonsense you saw on a "reality" TV show! I've seen that show.... and what they show is COMPLETELY made up for TV. Hell one of the episodes I saw was a peaceful grow op.... and in the end after the bust they showed a few neighbors (behind their screen doors) yelling "THANK YOU" to the DEA... Please... tell me you believe that WHOLE thing wasn't staged for television!
