College should be free to the student because it's an investment in the future for the country. A more educated population innovates more effectively and more efficiently resulting in a net economic gain for every single person in the country. In other words, investing in education will pay itself back in dividends, not to mention pay for MANY more things in the future. Same thing with NASA. People don't like investing in things unless it has a very short period of return, regardless of the potential benefits.
Furthermore, I doubt very many in previous generations would answer these questions any differently, we just didn't have YouTube and smartphones to broadcast worldwide back then. It behooves you to recognize this..
