ouch, it might be worth getting a few quotes of your own as it sounds like he`s planning to send it in a chauffeur driven stretched limo ;)
All fridge compressors need oil in them or they`ll seize up, mine takes 550ml.
I`d go for an oil lubricated compressor, they run cooler, quieter and last longer than oil-less, adding a little oil once every few months is no great hardship :)
U mean a fridge motor right? I'm Gna try an find a 3/4 or 1 Hp one.

I think he means fridge or any oiled silent compressor... I think the fridge idea is by far the most economical plus they're made to last for many many years working 24 hours/day as A pointed out to me...

They wouldnt like to be run 24 hours a day, even bambi`s are limited to 50% duty cycle ;) The longevity comes from coasting along at relatively low pressures <150psi

i cant post a link to the place i get tanks from because its local and for obvious reasons that wouldnt be a good idea. But if you live near any city that has 1 million people or so you are bound to have the same types of plastic tank companys that manufacture 100s of different tank sizes and shapes. i usually buy blemished tanks that they sell at reduced prices because of some small cosmetic blemish which i dont care about because the tanks get insulated anyway and cant be seen. just hit the yellow pages and the phone and youll be surprised what you can find locally. tanks used for fish usually have sloped bottoms . sloped bottom tanks are the best because with a sloped self draining bottom you really dont need a elevated silk screen bottom which saves alot of work.

as far as the compressors go i was going to buy a expensive silent compressor but decieded that i needed to make sure i had everything else right for AA before i invested in a expensive compressor so instead i just used my shop compressor and fitted it with an oil and water removal filter and it worked perfectly fine. id say dont spend the money if you have a shop compressor and can use that until your sure AA will work for you. my shop one ran so little it wasnt a issue with noise. now if your in an apartment or something then you cant run an 85db compressor but if in a house or have a garage just put it in a closet or basement or something and it will work till your sure AA is what you want. or if your a master handyman like A then build one like he did for testing a AA rig.

Is there any reason one of the compressors I listed above wouldn't work? Not really too sure about this whole AA setup and what it requires - just a compressor and a couple of nozzles, correct? I already have solenoids and all the fixin's.

A few hundred for a compressor and then another few hundred for some decent nozzles and i'm just about there, right? Excluding the tank, of course.

Edit: would one of the compressors I linked be enough to run four nozzles? Figure one nozzle per fifty-Ish gallon pod, or is that pushing it? Realize "it depends" is the pretty standard answer for questions like this, but I just need a ballpark number.

Depends on the nozzle air consumption, air pressure and timing cycle, typical AA nozzle consumptions range from 1-3cfm. Compressor reliability is the critical requirement.
200L of chamber volume per nozzle could be possible depending on the shape of the chamber and placement of the nozzle.
The 1st compressor looks ok but it seems strange that they`d use a receiver that small on a compressor that alledgedly puts out 4.4cfm @ 120psi, 4 nozzles would drop the tank pressure fairly rapidly, forcing the compressor to run more often than it would with say a 12-15 gal receiver. The other compressor looks like an oil-less jobby, i`d be wary of super quiet or similar descriptions unless you can hear it for yourself. Its worth having a look around youtube for compressor noise reviews.. not as loud as a shop compressor and quiet can be the same thing when it comes to advertising :)

good call tb and atom said the same about the filter. im gna use the compressor I have for now. what do these nozzles run at 40 psi? and whats a good starting point for a W/d cycle? im going to start with either rapid rooter plugs or rockwool and then put them right in the rig. my panels are 3/8'' thick azak ( pvc) panels Im using leds and manage to keep my room temps around 75 do you think wrapping the chamber in reflective insulation ( the stuff they wrap HVAC ducts with) will be enough or should I put 1'' foam insulation around it?

I did add a one way valve after the pressure relief valve, didnt want pressure backing up into the PRV during depressurization.

I feel like I am just about to catch up and you guys are into air atomizing, unfortunately that is too loud for me at the moment!

Figuring out the relative noise level of a compressor is about the same as high pressure water pumps.. not easy without actually hearing it :)
There`s a review of a 50db compressor on youtube, sound test is at 5mins 40secs it`ll give you an idea of how quiet/loud 50db is.

I did add a one way valve after the pressure relief valve, didnt want pressure backing up into the PRV during depressurization.

I feel like I am just about to catch up and you guys are into air atomizing, unfortunately that is too loud for me at the moment!
Wow- nice work bro... looks perfect from what I can tell- I don't think the one way valve after the prv is necessary, then again I am not quite sure what exactly you were worried about? Pat yourself on the shoulder and were all looking forward to seeing her maiden voyage ;)

I had the same logic- use my already owned compressor to figure stuff out, and if it works then I'll invest in the silent one...

Looks good to me too. A valve on the accumulator output might come in useful for maintenance or emergency use :)

Yes- valves everywhere! the more the merrier even if you hardly use them... Nice thing about JG is they are so easy to add in on the fly- hardest part might be having to dump you accumulator until you have that particular valve in ;) Another useful valve is right past the pressure regulator so you can easily plug/unplug your chamber for whatever reason while keeping the pressure switch primed. I actually opted instead of adding in a manual on/off switch for my pump, to just make the plumbing so that a valve manipulates the pressure switch to turn the pump on and off by holding pressure in the lines or not...

What type of filter do you reccomend for my shop compressor? and do I plumb it directly into the air line before my solenoids or right at the compressor before the air hose? How many do you reccomend?

Where will the compressor be located in relation to the chamber, a good distance away or just a few feet?
Mine's inside the chamber to save room, plus I figure the roots will eventually help deaden the sound...

They were really fuzzy and happy until I let them dry out a tad while doing some maintenance... Now they look a bit freakish
