Trouble seeing trichomes

I dunno if im just blind or what, but I bought a 30x microscope from the hydro store, and im 5 weeks into flower. I can't see the trichomes on the plant, is 5 weeks too early to see them? I may be stupid with the microscope, I cant get it to focus in right. I probably just have to get a better microscope.

Also, I use the GH Flora series and i never put any koolbloom in my mix (DWC). I was thinking to add it for the rest of my flowering period, good idea/bad idea?

Everyone says to look at trichomes for harvest time, but if i cant see them, is the color of the hairs (white/orange/amber) enough to determine when to harvest?

Also, how do I know when to flush?

first grow, Please help!

Yea i thought that i was seeing them with my plain eyes, but I guess i have to take a leaf off like c5 says. Ill let you guys know. How will I know when to start flushing?
Also im using the GH schedule, so do you flush after it ripens or during? Ive read that you gotta flush 1-2 weeks before you harvest. At eh same time, is the last two weeks of the flowering phase when it ripens? so do you flush after?

i have a 30x loupe and it works perfectly. you should be able to see them, theyre right there. the shiny stuff is what you wanna look at.

You can see them in the second pic!
I bought a cheapy 30x one and it took me 2 days to finally play with it enough to be able to see ANYTHING...at first I thought it was broken. I found that the leaf needs to be exactly a certain distance away to be able to see. So I took a larger specimen (my cat) and held it up to him until I could see his hair through it. Then I took a leaf off and didn't have to mess with the focus, just the distance away...this helped immediately!

scope should have a plastic spacer you put right on the bud. radio shack has um. look for clear mushroom looking globulets. milky white is good. when they start turning amber wait a couple of days and go for it.

I have a 30x scope. Can't see much detail only cloudy or clear. Bought the $12 radioshack scope 60-100x. Played for a couple days not much luck. Finally a black dinner plate under a leaf portion and perfect details of clear, cloudy, amber....never would of worked with a 30x scope...

some plants simply don't produce resin glands at 5 weeks. its fine and its probably too early to harvest. come harvest time, you can practically tell the color of the glands with your naked eye let alone a x30 scope. be patient ;-)
