Trimmers vs doing it by hand

Hi all, just wondering what the pros and cons are for using say a trimpro or manual trimmer vs doing it by hand. Does a trimmer affect the trichs or make it less potent? Just curious, would love to hear your thoughts.

I've never grown anything that would even make me think about buying a spinpro or whatever... But I'd imagine if you're harvesting a shit ton it would be worth the investment... granted it might not do the job as immaculately as a human.

Not much of a difference in trim. I use a TrimPro and it looks just as good as a hand trim, a million times faster.. 2 or 3 hours instead of 4 or 5 days is a huge beni....

I'm considering purchasing one. http://www.hydroponic-supplies.co.uk/trimbox-trimming-machine-33-p.asp

If I buy the work station instead of just the box, it comes with a plate that seems to have smaller gaps. http://www.hydroponic-supplies.co.uk/trimbox-cw-workstationtrimming-machine-35-p.asp

Which do you use?

haven't seen a machine trimmer in action, but i assume it's something that whirls around and chops off the trim leaves? if so, won't it also do a number on the trim leaf trichromes? maybe it's not very significant, but it might have an impact on any hash you make from the trim...

the pot snob in me: by hand.
the lazy stoner in me: trim/spin pro. you still have to take the fanleaves off by hand.

that said, it's really bleeding nice to have when your hands are bleeding and you're still only halfway done....

@mystikmike: i've made bubble and cannabutter with spinpro trimmings and, in both cases, it seems to prep the shake *better because the fanleaves are separated and only the really sugary shake ends up in the machine, plus it's nicely mulched up. AND you can gently (i have a wooden blade i like to use) scrape the machine itself to get a bunch of finger-hash grade hash which more than makes up for what you lose out of the shake... you have to do that while it's fresh or it dries on there like *glue*....

For commercial growers a trimmer makes sense. A lot depends on what your looking for in the finished bud. Nothing beats a good hand trim for "show"...Machines are really convenient, but they trim for weight (leafy) not quality...So it comes down to preference, really.

Personally, I'm rather proud of my grows, and would rather hand trim. I figure it took months to grow it, might as well take a few hours to make it "pretty". ....

lol, don't get me wrong, i know that those machines have put a lot of professional trimmers out of work. (and quality-wise, nothing beats human hands)
when they started becoming more and more popular here, i had one co-worker who showed up, looked at the machine, and said, "i don't like that effing thing. it's cuttin' my grass." (*roflmao*s all around) ;)

I would suggest trying one first if you can. I bought one at $1,500(TrimPro). got home all happy. Big smile, telling my wife it's all good. Work will be done in a day or two. No more eye strain, back pain, day in day out of trimming. I saw the units going out the door so I assumed they were good. I don't know what I was thinking. I hooked it up turned it on and ran my first test, my heart sunk. I was lucky enough to be able to return it. Went home again with a big smile on my face (able to return) and started hand trimming again. It was a lot of work but I did not regret not having that beast molesting the herb.

So what was so bad about it?

I recommend using and Trimbox/Trimpro for the rough trim on wet product. I then recommend the Spinpro to get through the nuggets smaller then a marble to golf ball size depending on my energy level. And hand trim all your colas and nice nugs, if its rough trimmed, its not that hard to clean em up depending on the strain and quality.

It is a subjective thing. Obviously some people like them and they seem to be selling.
I did not like it for many reasons:
1. it needed to be lubed to keep the blades from building up resins.
2. I might have not adjusted the blades to the correct angle as it would suck not only the fanleaves but start to pull the smaller buds in too.
3. you had to stop and clean the blades ans screen often and re-lube
4. the trim would get everywhere, the mesh catch bag would not contain all the trim and the trich and bits of leaf went everywhere.
5. I like to make hash with the Lbs of trim I collect. But the trim from the trimmer has oil residue(hardly but still) so cooking was the only option and it was so thrashed going through the trimmer.
6. After running a few colas on it, it still needed to be hand trimmed as it wouldn't get down between the buds. If you didn't do a follow up trim the buds had little fan leaf stems and some more leaf I like to remove for a nice clean looking bud.
7. You had to manage the size of the buds. If it was the table version you could only do large buds if it was the auto style you needed to strip the buds down to smaller sizes for the blades to had good contact and go a good job.

I make a very good effort to keep my hreb organic from start to finish and I am mush happier with my hand trimmed herb. I just don't look forward to the October trimming season. It's a lot of work ;) After it's all over it is allways worth it.

Did I fiqure that correct. I looked at the Trimpro XL, and it said $7500 for it. GEEZ that is alot of money, for that price it should grow, harvest, cure and trim your weed.
