Trichomes....cloudy to amber ration?

So I've been looking at trichomes with a 30X jewelers loupe. I've noticed that they have begun to start turning amber. I'm thinking of waiting till about 20-25% are amber before I harvest. Is that a good percentage of amber or should I wait till about half have turned? What do you prefer?

Theres the facts and truth....hope it helps

I've tried giving my plants 48 hours of darkness before harvesting and have harvested without such a dark period and found there was no difference.
The study done on this practice found 72 hours to be the sweet spot and in some varieties caused a 30% increase in thc content...was on opengrow a decade ago but I no longer have it as that pc died and the data on the hd was corrupted beyond being worth the work to extract

Tried it. It is nonsense and does not work. You cant change genetics with dark periods. Its is a sill wives tale just like a nail through the stock or garlic to keep away rippers. I have a magic wand that adds THC crystals faster and better, but im using it to keep the lions out of my kitchen.

your opinion is noted...my lab results show different

in your world environment means nothing I guess

Apparently it looks like he has been ban'd. He was right about the trichomes though when they turn amber(just starting)your girls are good to go.
The thing is, I never disagreed with him. I just questioned a few statements he made and asked for references and/or sources so I could be better informed, along with letting him know I didn't appreciate his vulgar attitude. Since then he has had a bug up his butt towards me. I have no doubt that my girls are ready to trim, I just need to the time to do it. From what I understand there is a good window of time between the first amber trichome and full on you-done-messed-up-your plants. Seeing how Tuesday was when I saw amber for the first time and Friday when I have the time to trim, I really don't see my crop being a waste in those three and a half to 4 days. The deal with Trousers doesn't come down to knowledge, facts, preferences or even a strong opinion, it comes down to presenting info in a way that is tactful and showing respect for like minded growers. I just don't have time for that kind of shenanigans.

Anyways.....

Thank you everyone for your input. I am super stoked about my first grow and looking forward to the final results. I will be trimming soon and will be posting results. Please keep and eye out for my updates.

You do not want to have ANY amber trichs. You are losing potency.
Of all subjects on RIU this is the most misunderstood and the most harmful practice.
There are a handful of growers on here that I have MUCH respect for but still harvest with amber. So, it's not just a noob thing.

Clear trichomes (just before going cloudy) are the most potent. Cloudy are in the middle and Amber are the least potent.
As new glands are forming all the time, you want the balance of the most developed heads while having the least amount of cloudy and amber. So you are going for that perfect spot where many new heads are just hitting ripe yet you have minimal degraded trichs.

In short, cloudy trichs are degraded. Amber are even more degraded. Don't buy into this amber stuff.

So I guess, if higher THC content is not your thing then go for the amber. The less THC you want, the more amber you want.

If you do a journal and harvest at peak potency you will have the "early bro, too bad, would of been a good pull" crowd. Dr Paul Mahlberg's studies show otherwise.

That kid goes around trolling everyone bud. He was on my the other week. Just works his way around trying to disprove experienced growers and misinform new people at the same time. Best thing to do if you didnt already report the post where e called us A-holes, get enough ppl to do that and they will ban the account..
Wait who are you talking about here? Lol

Interesting read but I am not convinced. It may apply to some strains but not all.

So Dr Paul Mahlberng studies Cannabis for over 30 years ... but Medical Grade just doesn't buy it... He's not convinced... Surely Dr M made a mistake... He overlooked something that "GR0PHATBDZ" saw with his buddy "SMKN4LIFE" here on RIU.. Haha.

Go for it man. Pretty much everyone else is..
One day, you might come to notice that most of the advice on here from "experienced growers" is ass backwards. Until then, go ahead and harvest degraded trichomes.

Wow - could you get more defensive? Lol, umad bro. Haha.

your not smokin my weed, dont get your panties in a wad sister.

and its not a feeling - its what I have learned from my plant, it might be higher in thc levels at this stage, but maybe that is not what I am growing for.

now go pound sand with trousers you blow hard. When people want to be force fed bulsshit and opinions you can open up business. But, untill then - why dont you tone down your self appointed righteous pompus attitude.

Like I said, if THC isn't what you are going for then go ahead and harvest for amber. They are your buds, do what you want. Clear trichomes holding more THC is not an opinion bud, it's the truth. You can't just call it your opinion and disregard scientific studies.

Defensive? You must be mistaking your own feelings for mine. It looks like you have been offended.
Try reading my post in a nice voice.. maybe that will help?

Anyways, good luck. Checkout Dr Paul Mahlberg. Maybe check it out before you say you don't buy it?

Maybe trousers tone of posting carried over to yours, lol. I am usually even keeled and only responded to trousers berating posts. The OP was only looking for info, not to be harrased with negative, bad information.

Hey if you meant nothing negative, I take back anything I said :p
