I read similar messages and have to wonder how people do their repotting. It is so simple that someone should be able to do it without damaging any roots unless they happen to have some ‘accident’ while doing it.
You simply allow your soil to dry out slightly and then you pick up your pots holding the pot in one hand and placing your other hand over the soil with the stem between your first and second finger and then turn the plant/pot over and tap the edge of your pot on something like a countertop and you just allow the rootball to slide from the pot and there it is, in your hand, damage free.
I guess some people grab the stem and yank and for some inexplicable reason assume that the entire rootball will pull from the pot and do not stop to think that what they are doing is like pulling a weed and that some of the roots will break and remain in the soil much like a weed’s roots will break and some will remain in the soil.
