Transplanting from Hydroton to Soil?

Right now I'm growing ebb and flow style in two gallon buckets filled with Hydroton (Grow Rocks). I have a controller bucket with float switches that regulate the water levels inside the pots. I have been ready to bloom for the last week but have been having trouble with getting my next batch of clones to take root.

So my plan is to take my two healthiest plants out and make them mothers while I figure out why none of my clones are working. If I let my crop veg out any longer they will probably overgrow my space.

Has anyone ever tried to transplant from hydroton to soil after the plant has already established a root system in the hydroton? I would leave them in the buckets they are in but I would have to convert to a drip system for feeding and I just want to keep things simple at this point.
