Transplant Time

So I started my babies in 8 oz cups this time and they've outgrown them, it's time to transplant. Previously, I've stared them in 16 oz cups and then transplanted to 1.5 gallon pots. Should I transplant up to the 16 oz cups now or go straight to the 1.5 gallon pots?

Thanks!

I'm a long time gardener and IME I've found gradual "step up" in planter size really only matters for wooded stem plants/non-annuals,,,,
....if you water correctly, you can plant weed seedlings in their permanent home/pot (for the most part)...
disclaimer: it is indeed easier & preferred however to "Step up" 1-2 pot sizes IF you let them get sorta semi-"root bound" \, this is only to minimize transplant shock/root disturbance (the medium transplants/moves nicely into the next container w/o disturbing the roots)...this is hard to explain and outside the scope of your answer but basically you want to transplant whenever the roots bind the growing medium (more or less)
.....I've already done experiments with clones and in so far as I can tell, it doesn't matter all that much with marijuana (as compared to other plants) ..... in fact on one end of the spectrum I'd put weed analogous with tomatoes & peppers with regard to transplant shock, with curbits, legumes and corn on the other far end (easily shocked)_
