Track Lighting

I have a 600 watt HPS, and a 400 watt MH mounted in the same hood. It is suspended from a motor and track over a 6x3 tray. Is it still ok to be on 12/12 when your light rotates? The light is not constantly over the plants for the whole 12 hours if its moving? is 12" above the tops of the plants ok? It is very well vented and is just barely warm to the hand at that height.
