my first grow started in an 18 gal tote, things got to crowded so I switched to 5 gal buckets, this was better but changing the nutes and flushing was a pain in the ass,so now I have a rdwc set up that I made myself, just waiting on some plants to show sex so I can take clones from them and get started with it,I think the rdwc is the best although I have not grown anything in it yet im confident it will work fine, nute changes and flushing will be alot easyer with this set up,just switch 2 valves to drain the entire system,I have an 18 gal tote for my res also. and I like to use milk crates to elevate the plants,it makes it easyer to take care of them instead of crawling around on the floor,as the plants grow just remove the crates. good luck on what you decide I prefer rdwc

Just a normal cooler? Isn't that spendy? Im looking at 3 or 4 totes for flower and 2 in veg and a smaller one for a cloner.

Buckets dude.. This way you will have yourself a perpetual garden with various strains.. easy to contain and control...

Buckets are awesome!! I personaly like the solo dwc buckets. unfortunately I do not have them, I use trays, but I set up a good friend with 6 buckets and a light, he just rotates in and out of it with various strains, never an issue..

With totes or trays etc you have batches and lulls, withbuckets you can have plants at various weeks of bloom under the same light...

True its hard to decide I kinda wana do the bucket seems like it might be easier for lsting also.
Buckets are the best..

Get 1 sick plant is alot better in many ways then getting an entire tote full of plants sick. There are too many reasons to list why buckets are the way to go..

Totes always have limited space for blooming plants, buckets you can maneuver..
Totes have batches, all at once and nothing inbetween (unless you have multiple stations)
Totes you are usually limited to single strains as each strain has different harvest times holding up the show or flow (bottlenecking)

soo many reasons to go buckets.

I actually have 2 totes that I threw away... not bad cloners tho, but blooming in them is different, they get very very cramped.. Hated them!!

I use lowes buckets wrapped in duct insulation works great I had six under a t5 for veggin all diff strains, now I moved the two smaller ones to a diff box and I have four under two 400w hps easy to control, and keeps the res temps in check. and i can run at diff stages of flower, diff strains etc etc, its the way to go IMHO

if you have any fear of your rez water getting warm, the team water jug coolers will work best in the long run. no need for a chiller. you can find them cheaper on craigslist too. get a bucket and a team water jug cooler and see which you like best. plus the team water jug cooler have the drains on the bottom side.

buckets are the way to go man, cheap, effective, versatile. I readily change one of my buckets from a single plant bucket to a clone bucket simply by switching out a cheap 1 dollar lid. 2.50 for a bucket. 1 for a lid. ruffly 3 buck worth of duct insulation to keep res temps in check 5.50 for a bucket thats just about as good as a water cooler, for a lot less.... I dont have a spout at the bottom of my bucket to make it easier to empty it..... I just pick it up and carry it... its only got 3 gallons in the darn thing...

I use Lowe's 5 Gallon Igloo coolers.. I was going to go black buckets but the climate here in the desert is too much so I needed something to keep my reservoirs cool for days at a time.
