how do i top my plants? whats best way? is the difference in yield that big like ive read?

i hate kids on this site-anyway topping gives you bushier plant(it good to continue it with some lst too)and instead of one main cola you get many cloas.i topped my plant and got three main stems(only shitty thing is yesterday i broke one of the stem )and i train them with lst to get even more bud sites
