Topping Question

Is it my understanding that if I were to top a plant where it says "Topping Cut Location" the plant's main cola will basically stop growth and the two new stems/colas growing where the yellow dots are will just grow out to form a Y. So why top at all, those two stems (yellow dots) are going to grow either way, if not topped, might as well just keep the main stem. Or, is it that two new stems/colas will sprout from the main stem as well as the two colas at the yellow dots? Hope my question isnt too confusing.

when you top it the leaves that were already going to come out of there get way more light and become new stalks im pretty sure

i haven't topped a plant yet, i bend and train and you get tons of shoots going straight up.. looks like a whole bunch of tops.

When you top where it says to cut, the auxins in the plant are redistributed so that it recognizes the yellow dot locations as the new top of the plant.

When this happens it focuses growth on these shoots resulting in 2-4 main colas during flowering.

Assuming you give them enough veg time in between topping and flowering. :hump:

You can top/pinch off any branch anywhere and the nodes below it will take over. Follow Uncle Ben's thread about topping to get 2 or 4 main colas.

Uncle bens thread will tell you all you need to know about Topping and will answer your questions. Im not a fan of Topping and I much prefer FIMming for bigger yields but it all comes down to personal preference and the way you want to grow.

that is true. uncle ben is the shit when it comes to botany. the main point of topping is to reduce the upward height and make it bushy. ideal for peoploe wit small space. it is also said that you can yeild more bud from a topped plant too. but i've seen it go both ways.

I am very old school or just an old hippie if you will and have topped the last 40 odd years and FIMMed this year (I was too close to flower time to get the true benefit) I have a new friend in FIMMing.......great results and 4 colas sites instead of two, less shock to the plant and the side branches caught up to the top of the plant. Good Luck
