Topping and Tying Autoflowers

Is topping and/or tying Autoflowers recommended to increase yield? Today is 11 days into my 2nd grow. I learned a lot about what to (and what not to) do during my first grow but I've seen people getting pretty damned good yields from their autos. One major mistake I made was not putting my seedlings in a big pot first so the tap root hit bottom early which caused the plants (and yields) to be fairly small. The quality was great though. I've remedied this problem in my 2nd grow, and they look great, but of course I'd like to optimize.

BTW, I'm using a 400w HPS, Ocean Forest soil, and Fox Farm nutrients in a closet grow.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Aloha!

almost any kind of stress early on can stunt growth and delay harvest. autos don't go straight into flower like a 12/12 from seed...they still veg and then flower like a photo, they just make the switch on their own independent of the light cycle. if you stress them out in the first few weeks they can actually stay in veg longer. My current grow was under a cfl placed way too high for the first couple weeks and they stretched until they tipped over, but would just NOT GROW LEAVES. They stayed like that for 3 weeks until my light came in and then they took off. I'm on week 10 and should be checking trichs as i near my harvest, but instead they're just now STARTING to put on some weight. I'm still pretty new at this but I can't imagine they'll be done in the next 2 weeks. 3-4 looks more like it at this point.

Unless they just stop growing in 2 weeks.

I did what the consensus said...LST only - the Dinafem Original Amnesia auto is tolerating it very well. Today is day 22 from seed in a 3 gal pot immediately after seeding (also, as an experiment I'm growing 2 Dinafem White Widow autos in one 3 gal pot).

I'm very short on closet space (2'x3') because I'm also flowering a Reserva Privada OG Kush and a TGA Subcool Pandora's Box right now. All 3 autos are at least 21" and thriving under 400w HPS, Ocean forest soil and Fox Farms nutes.

Thank you all so much for the great feedback!

i top my autos. the trick is to grow them as fast as possible the first week( no more than ten days ) and top for a double or four cola plant. topping is
usually done to keep the plant from growing as tall as it normally would.

there have been many side by side tests done on this site and similar sites. Topping your autos will give you 1/3 more yield and delay flowering by around 3 days. You cannot delay the autos more than that unless they are weak genetics, or you are topping multiple times. I have been enough proof to lead me to believe, unlike photoperiod, topping an auto can lower THC content, or at least make the plant appear to be less frosty.

sure you can delay flowering with other nub mistakes, but topping a plant only shocks it for around 3 days. if you dont believe me... top your plant and growth will resume in 24-48 hours and then be at full capacity by 72 hours.
