Top 10 guitarists of all time

I'm glad to see Satriani on a few of these lists. Few virtuoso's have a groove. He also knew that sometimes playing the wrong note from a technical standpoint is the right note.

If memory serves, he gave lessons to a lot of well known players like Kirk Hammett, Steve Vai and Larry LaLonde. LaLonde really ran with the "wrong note is the right note" style.

Santana I think has been largely ignored for some reason. He was the only artist who was at woodstock to never get a grammy up until he had that one album with a ton of guests on it back in the 90's?

Its not just santana.
There are alot of great guitar players that never get the recognition they deserve. We have been spoiled in a way by just how many great guitar players there are and have been.
Buckingham, beck, vai, winters, henley, felder and the list could go on and on of guys that get little credit.

That's the point of the thread though- to pick 10. Conversing and saying there's a million is true but doesn't force you to choose. Who's your top 10? It's not easy.

Ain't that the truth.

I have to at least try to limit it to genre. I'll do well known lead (mostly) rock artists.

So, in no particular order:

1- Hendrix
1- Iomi
1- Gilmour
1- Morello
1- Van Halen
1- Harrison
1- Navarro
1- Perry
1- Page
1- SRV

and about 400 others.

I know this thread will be moved to another section at some point but T&T gets more action, just like @mainliner's mom's anus does when compared to her vagina.

Ok, mine changes all the time but here it goes:

1-Hendrix
2)Jimmy Page
3)Slash
4)BB King
5)Eric Clapton
6)Stevie Ray Vaughan
7)Brian May
8.Joe Satriani
9)Tom Morello
10)Eddie Van Halen

I agree with that list mostly but I'd put Prince in Eric Clapton's place. Eric Clapton is a technically talented guitarist, but what has he done that's different or innovative? I think he's way over rated. Jeff Beck should be in there too. Don't care for Joe Satriani…but he is gifted.

I appreciate that you don't have John Frusciante on that list. You're great.

Um...I haven't read any other posts yet, but I like Justin King...

And then THESE guys. I just really like the guitar in THIS song.
