would 1000 watt hps be too much for 12 sq ft armoire (5 foot high x 29.5 in wide )?
( of course it would be proplerly ventilated to maintain temps ) or should i stick with a 600 w hps ?

Thanks in advance ! :peace:

I would stick with the 600w with only 5 feet to deal with. you figure you lose about a foot with the pot so you only have 4 feet and thats if you strap it to the roof. good luck!

i think a 600 would be too much for that size enclosure. you say a little over 29 inches wide which is about two and a half feet. unless you're amoire is six feet deep, you don't have 12 square feet growing space. A 250w or 400w is the max i would go in that area. Too much light can be a problem, It's known that the bigger your light the heavier your harvest but only in the right set up.

29" wide = approx 2.4'
15.6" deep = approx 1.3'

2.4 x 1.3 = 3.12 sq. ft.

50w/sq ft is the general recommendation. 250 watts will give a bit over 80w/sq ft, which is plenty.

I'm running 100w/sq ft (400w hps in 2' x 2' cab) and it's pretty easy to burn plants if I don't stay on top of things.

I would put a 250 in there and grow one plant, with the depth being just over a foot, you're going to have to do some selective pruning and training to keep that plant within your dimensions. You could also look into a two foot t5 light. These are generally cheap, put off little heat, and you can put them inches above your canopy without worry of burn. With a 400w HID light heat will most likely become a problem, so i suggest t5 or 250 bro. Good luck!
