Too long germinating?

Hey guys, very peculiar question here,

is it possible to leave a seed in the germination process for too long?

Currently, I have 10 seeds still germinating. I started them 2 days ago, by leaving them in water for 24hours on my removable hard drive for my pc (emits a fair amount of heat.)

Yesterday I used the paper towel and 2 plate technique, once again placing them on my removable hard drive. I took a look at them today and some tap roots almost 2" long! Most of their seeds have popped off, and I can't plant them because my rockwool cubes are still being dispatched.

So basically, should I take them off the heat? Or is it okay for the root to grow excessively long, because most peoples root length when planting seems to be 2cm.

Grr, I hate to do this, but as this post is currently on the 3rd page, i'm gonna have to bump it because I would like to know >D

As in time? or length?

The rockwool should hopefully arrive within 2 days from now, and the length, well, I'll take a picture in a moment. All 10 have germinated though :D

Wow man. I thought you were dealing with 2 or 3 cm or root. I would say (if its not to late) they need to be put in soil asap. If they were mine i wouldnt wait for the rockwool and would put them straight in soil. They need light and rootspace now.

God damn. I need soil! What do you reckon to perlite with vermiculite for seedlings? That's all I have :(

I dunno, i guess it could work for a few days (dont quote me on that). Why dont you just go get soild from your garden or someplace, then just microwave it to steralise it and mix it witht he perlite etc. Or nip to Homebase or something?

dood, 2 days of germinating is nothing. your fine, relax.
lots of people wait til the seed caps come off before they plant them, youve got lots of time

Phew, I can relax. I was just getting a little worried because of the size, surely when I plant them, the top is gonna be out the soil? But that's okay i guess?

no plant it so its like 2mm under the soil. just cover the top gently with loose soil . any white = under the ground...any green = above the ground . that should help with the planting.

sorry to butt in your thread. Does anyone know how long seeds stay good for?

you can germinate for up to like 10 days. I germinated for 10 days and all of them sprouted and when i planted them they all survived and such.

You can put them in starter cubes I mean soil cubes for a week I would still lightely bury them and let the root develop a little. Then take them out when they have grown about a inch. Clean of the root and plant in rockwool. Be gentle when cleaning off the root. Also you should soak the rockwool for 24 hrs before using.
