To trim or not to trim? The 2nd week of flowering

I've trimmed them twice now in flowering phase, a heavy trimming the day i put them into flower and another slightly less agressive trimming a week after, now my plants seem as though they could use another. Is this advised or negative. Postd one pic here, theres more in my journal if you care to see what im doing to provide more info. Also always all your thoughts are appreciated

i would remove any small under branches. make the plants focus more on the main cola's.

those are some nice bushes bro, if it were me i would trim the bottom 1/3 or so hard n put them under some hps lights. if you are going to finish under the t5s you need to do the same so the plant can concentrate the energy to the buds the light is reaching. but nice plants regadrless of what you do. good luck...

Mongo, Yes I am flowering under all red floros. I have 3 6- bulb T5's up top and 7 of the 105w HCFL underneath, look previous in journal if youd like to see them. I've heard mixxed responses on whether or not floros are any good at flowering so i decided what beter way to learn then to do it myself. I have some HPS that I am using with my next grow starting in a few weeks so ill make sure i journal that as well. The buds dont get as large or as dense and theres not as much light penetration on the foilage but i think that i may have countered that with the HCFL's that i hooked up.

Vilify - As for that lower foilage I was going to chop it off alot more and lollipop it but the plants just looked too damn healthy. The reasons I asked about trimming them was is it too late for me to lollipop one to see if i like the effects? 2 weeks into flowering if i chop off a 1/3 of the plant is it going to have n e long term effects? or should i Just leave them... anyways

Void, if you notice in the middle plants more so some of the fan leaves seem to be clustering with one another cause a barrier that my lights from up top and below and trouble penetrating. My reason for trimmin them was to expose more of the budding areas to the light both above it and below it so that it can get as much light as possible.

4tatude - If you could take a sec and check out the HCFLs i put under them when they started budding and tell me if you think that this will increase those small small and lil popcorn buds down below into maybe something of substance. it was worth a try, and also whats your thoughts about lollipoping one of those even tho its 2 weeks into flowering?

As ALWAYS THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOU INPUTS

for sure lollipoping is the way to go . like 4tatude said about the bottom third of plant. transfer that energy upwards.
you can do it now or wait till week 4 of flower. thats when i prune bottom third of plant.
nice grow so far.

Yeah it's a common misconception that it's good to do this. You're creating stress and killing a healthy part of your plant that collects energy and will be used for energy later on..

Growers trim dead/dying leaves so that the plant doesn't try to repair them. How much energy do you think is used on popcorn buds? Factor in stress levels/grow time and I bet your trimming is detrimental.

Yeah, Ive heard the same thing a few times now.

Def. a bad idea to trim the leaves bro. Just leave them the plant will suck the food it needs outta them to produce the buds, ur essentially making the plant work harder and delaying bud production by chopping off a leaf. Happy Growing.

Thanks all. So you dont think that those HCFL are enough to make that lower portion worth while? I think im going to chop down 2 of em like that and see the difference and see if i like it

Also does no one take into the fact that im running hydro? doesnt complex nute solutions from green plant and other brands suffice the nutrients that are normally found in fan leaves so that the plant does no need to get them from the leaves but rather gets them from the nutrients? SOil compared to hydro in soil the plants have to save up nutes due to lack of accessability while as in DWC in hydro the nutes provide those things normally found in the leaves instantly 24/7 thru the res? Just a thought and a question. Hoping to see what everyone says hehehe :)

Iv'e done it both ways trimmed and not trimmed. I don't trim any more just let them grow. Works for me

The leaves are mainly taking in light which is converted to energy. Take away leaves, you take away energy that can't be gathered through the root system.

Why not just make hash out of your pop corn buds? Guaranteed it will be less of a waste then chopping all of those branches off. Only chop if they're dead/dying. I guess if you're hindered by space you can use trim techniques..

IMO indoor plants ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT, therefore they are already stressed. we pack them in, juce them up with every nute we can think of to get better yields. it is ecential for the health of the plant to trim and allow air movement throughout. in your case the lower leaf structure really serves verry little purpose n the benefits from cutting out weigh the negative reaction the plant has to triming. i have no scientific proof just my experience n results.
BB i think you have the right idea to do your own test like you were talking about n see. im not tryint to start a despute or rant just stating my oppinion. when oppinions are stated there is always those who differ, i think thats great. it keeps us openminded people thinking outside the box. i never fit the box anyway so those of you that respond negativly to my oppinion more power to you, do as you please. thats the wonderfull thing about growing n forums like this, you get many different views. you just got to wade through allthe bs n figure out which one you want to follow.
good luck with the grow n ill keep an eyeout, im interested in results more than anything...

Yeah lots of people have been saying that in regards to flowering under the T5's. You advice, although not really a answer in a way, is what Ive come to find is the majority of my answers. Is this or this better? Well no one has the same setup as you so you have to try to find out and thats part of the fun of it. But thankyou all for your opnions, ill keep posts and journal updates as good as I can. Im posting some right now actually :) Thanks again everyone

think about it if the plant is huge it doesn't need all the leafs. and healing little spots where the leafs were cut takes alot less energy then feeding the leaf. growth may slow for awhile but once healed buds will fatten up

There is a LOT of documentation on BOTH ways that WORK. Just like the FLUSH or NOT FLUSH debate. There is positives and negatives in both sides people tell.

The only one that will know is you, do what WORKS for YOU. I go crazy and defoliate if I need too, if I don't I dont need too. Either way there is slight to little difference I see anyway, and if anything its better for buds not detromental to the plant like Void seems to think.

That's ok, it works for him. Now go and figure out what works for YOU. Your plants will let you know.
This is the best, most honest answer you're going to get. There are pros and cons.. you have to decide if you want to hurt to help or not.

Sorry if my post sounded like you were wrong Void or your side is wrong
It didn't seem that way to me. I knew what you meant, and you're the other side of the story that needed telling. Many things in growing work like this.. yin and yang.. give and take.. Pros and cons ;)
