to nute or not to nute.. that is the question

Whats up everyone,
I have like 13 girls in 5 gal buckets in highly amended Foxfarm ocean forest. Its got mass organic nutes added to it before i planted into them. My plants never had any problem with the hot soil except for one plant. They are growing faster than anything ive ever grow.

Now my question is, Should I administer some nutes to them eventually or should I let them ride it out in the soil. They vegged for about 2 months. they are around 3 ft tall and bushy dark greeeeen as hell. they are in their second day of flower now. I am pretty sure I could add some iguana juice bloom to them here in a litle but i want them to use up a little more of what they have first.

Im on the fence. They are doing great, I believe the soil has all they will need. But a lil iguana juice could beef them up some ya know. I will add molasses later for sure but other than that idk what im gonna do. I would appreciate some input on what you suggest. especially organic growers, soil growers and nute experts... thanks for your time
peace out:sleep:

I used to do my own soil mix. The plants didn't need any nutes for the first 45 days. After that, I only used nutes at 25% strength. I learned the hard way after burning up some very expensive genetics.

My advice to you is to feed your girls. i feed my girls their whole life. I use all FoxFarm(Soil,Nutes,Enhancers). Your girls are going to be looking for different nutes to eat since they are now about to blossom. I have 16 girls in 7gal. buckets. Take it from me, it is hard to overdo Organic nutes. I always overshoot the guidelines with outstanding results. And my chronic tastes so f...ing good. Look at my sig grow for a referrence. I practice what I preach.

Good advice! Burning my plants is a huge concern for me! I have been considering nuting half of my crop to see how it goes and make a good routine for them. I think 25% strength nutes is a good bit considering what my soil already has. I think there may be too much nitrogen for my plants know what to do with already in my soil so i dont wanna give them anymore ever. Micro-nutrients is a concern of mine. I hear guanos, castings, and such are good for the micro nutrients, i used plenty. but i have no way of knowing exactly what i've got. I think a good specalized nute formula would be best for my plants and to avoid a nitrogen burn. For future refrence I will either write down exactly what and how much i use of everything. Or I will grow hydro.

I really like the idea of soil growing and appreciate the craft of it but dwc sounds too good to be true. Now im wondering why did you switch from soil ViRedd?
Thanks for the response.

Oh and my plants have been going almost 60 days veg with no problems they look green as hell lush and they grow fast as hell still. I am concerned I veggd them so long they may need nutes before they can finish flowering ya know. So you think I should add nutes slowly till i reach 25% recomended and see what happens eh. I am probably going to do that. May have to do a little more research on the subject before I jump off the nutrient diving board.

Thanks! What kind of ff nutes are you using? I hear its hard to over do organic nutes thats why I added so many to my soil lol. Now its biting me in the ass because I dont know when to add more. they show no signs of needing anything. but hey if it doesnt hurt its gonna make them rocket even bigger! Damn im excited

I use Fox farm Ocean forest along with all the Fox Farm Organic nutes and enhancers.
I feed every time I water. I flush when I see buildup in the topsoil which isn't often.
If you use Big Bloom then you don't really need to worry about overdoing it. The NPK rating is 1-1-1 for that.

I've switched to hydro as well, but I did a few grows in FF soil before with FF nutes.

Because you aren't using straight FF soil, here is my advice: I wouldn't add additional nutes unless I see a problem. Some type of deficiency.

I take it this is one of your first grows? The way I see it is like this. Right now you are driving down the road with your brand new driver's license in a nice big Cadillac. Runs great, it's nice and smooth - you would have to do something really stupid to crash that car. It is going to get you around the track just fine.

You are asking if you should upgrade to a race car - adding nutes that *may* increase your yield, but it makes everything a little bit tippy - it doesn't take much to flip a tweaked race car.

My advice is to just get around the track this timr and then next time you can try and squeeze more out of your plants.

A wise grower here was fond of saying this: "When it comes to nutes, there are three options: not enough...just right.....and dead."

im using ocean forest, the guy at my hydro store says not to give any nutes for 2-4 weeks, because the soil has plenty, after i transplanted, i gave 25% strength nutes, the leaves yellowed badly, and had more than i would like burned tips and curling. im now at about 3 weeks after transplanting, and i gave 25% strength and after 2 days they are looking good so far. so i would wait about a month and then give 1/4 the recommended nutes. but i dont think it would be wise to give it alll the nutes you want to use at the same watering, split it up.

example
monday - half of your nutes @ 1/4 strength.
wednesday - straight ph'd water
friday - the remaining half of your nutes @ 1/4 strength.

BUT be careful, because ive noticed this ocean forest retains water extremely well, takes about a week for the soil to completely dry up.

None of that really applies. He isn't using regular Ocean Forest. He added more nutes.

ha I like that, just dead. I really hope not!! I do not plan on needing nutes just yet but since i vegged for 2 months it gives me the feeling its gonna need a bit more down the road ya know. Right now everything is dark green thick and healthy as can be, no way i'd nute yet. once i see signs of a moderate lack of nutes i will add 10% strength fert, increasing untill i get to 25% I think if done slowly and properly i will have a minimal chance of burning my baby girls. Here is a picture or two. :eyesmoke: also i'll only nute half of my girls. for refrence.
These pics are old. my girls are about 3.5 ft tall now im afraid they will be monsters. right now they are under a 600w hps, next week i will add one more 600w hps. wish me luck :dunce: haha growing rocks

damn i thought there was enough stuff already in the soil, including all of the things you've added.

idk, even with all the nutes the plants seem to thrive. theyve been in those pots since they were a few inches tall. didnt buffer the soil or anything. i think they could take more. it cant hurt. except when i fulsh i'll need to flush the fuck outta the soil. im actually thining about flushing now waiting seeing how they are doing then nute accordingly
