are you a care giver?

i dont know of anyone on RIU who owns a dispensary so that might be why no ones really responding. actually a month or two ago i was talking to someone who worked at one

all the advice i can give you on the matter is this; there are so many dispensaries already and they also arent the most neighborhood friendly business to open. youll probably have a long wait

im pretty sure you have to buy the license off some one else, they changed it around here, its not lik it was before where anyone could set one up, you have to be approved by the city, a bunch of shit

Don't get high while working, take a business course, Make sure to promote yourself, Try and get attractive employees that are intelligent, and wont be ripping you off (that would be hard) but you would be surprised the amount of people that patronize places simply due to the employment.

Hi, Matt Jacobsen here... I see theres a lot of confusion on this matter (even on this board - when in reality its a very simple process).

If you want to open a dispensary get it from the horses mouth. Ive personally opened six in California.

Ive written a free newsletter with tips, tricks, advice, your states laws and the exact process you need to take for any state you want to operate in.

If you want to know how to do this, get the free newsletter Ive written for this exact purpose at www.start-a-dispensary.com on how to open a dispensary

Ask away if you need additional help or questions.

Regards, Matt

why, hello there!

Depending on the locality there could be major differences. You didnt say where you wanted to open so its hard to direct you on what needs to be done.

So #1, choose the area you want to start. See if theres other ones there- if so the city probably is favorable towards it. It doesnt make sense to find a conservative area that doesnt want a dispensary and spend alot of $$$ litigating.

What I would tell you to do from here is to check out the free videos of attorneys we've made just to answer questions like at Cannabis College HQ

For example if you wanted to start in California:

These videos will assist you with where you want to be at.

If you have additional questions, we also do free live webinars where you can ask any questions you have to MMJ attorneys live for free, no strings attached. The key is to be as compliant and transparent as possible with your state and municipalities laws.

Best of luck in following your dreams.

Dispensaries in California have to operate as nonprofits. You have to turn in paperwork to the IRS before you can get legal nonprofit status. They have raided a ton of dispensaries in Cali lately and my own dispensary was just shut down and the owner arrested. There's so many pieces of the 215 laws that are left open to interpretation. For example, the dispensary in my area that was shut down, the prosecutor said that in order for it to be a correct nonprofit, every member had to "take part" in the growing process. But, of course, that's up for debate and going to court. Anyway, the point is, you have to turn in the correct paperwork and get approved as a nonprofit and then you can open a dispensary. At your own risk, of course.

The thing about nonprofits is, you're allowed to have a reasonable income, and you're allowed to employ people and pay them a reasonable income. BUT...nonprofits can take donations, grants, etc. And they're technically owned by the public. They can get complicated. The biggest legal issue i've read about with dispensaries is that as a nonprofit, the business has to account for their overhead, including employee wages, and every dollar above overhead has to go back into the company. It can't be profit for anyone. See, my dispensary owner bought things like a brand new truck for himself with the excess money that should have been going back into the company. But dispensary owners aren't usually in the business so that they can make a minimum salary....so. Good luck though, if this is what you want to do.
