here's a nother thought , if you can'd do that then maybe if you wanted you could try to build a grow box using fiberglass cloth

I could... but that would be messy and probably no less flame resistant. I'm happy with what I get off CFL plants the problem is, how do I get enough light to the bottom of the plant so I get decent buds on the whole plant.

I've wired a temp light for my room since my ceeling fan and light fixture doesn't work and used packing tape to take the wiers together and no fire yet and it doesn't stink:fire:

on the funnier note , while I was watching the Discovery channel I saw a show that they built small houses out of very compact straw and it wouldn't burn it would only smolder since there would be very little air in it. and it would be crazy but very funny and intresting to see if someone actuly built one of thoes and used it as a small grow house

paint the walls in this 'basement hole in the ground' of yours. smell is not going to be a concern in this small of a space if your in a house... and you can barely fit anything down there. or spend some of that money on a DIY carbon filter.

ur asking how to grow a 'tree' in a tiny space. not likely to happen. if you really only have a 6' high space that is 2' wide and 2' long... then go with (4) 4 ft. flourescent tubes - 2 bulbs each in the corners as you described. Cool for vegging and red for flowering. Use a 60w or so CFL on the top of the plant. the container is going to take up the bottom foot anyways... so position the flourescents a foot off the ground. Veg until the plant is 24" tall then put it into flower mode.

better yet... think outside the box.

I guess since you can't go HPS you should setup a few lights under the tree for the bottom growth (5 maybe 6?). Also you should have a good bit of lights up top.

Ok, so two florescent bulbs (long ones) T5s in each corner with a nice light array overtop. And my basement is huge, it's just the opening that is stupid. It was meant to be a dirt basement but the house started shifting so they dug out the basement and paved in in concrete so I have a lot of room, however they didn't make the hole any bigger, so I've got lots of room for boxes etc, but on all of them I have a hepa air filter on the intake and a carbon filter for the exhaust, this leaves my house pretty much free of smell, that's why I'm using the cardboard boxes (also keeps pests away). So I could get rid of the boxes, turn the whole basement into one big grow op but I'm aiming for personal use and that probably would land me in jail.
Anyone have any idea on prices I should be paying for these fixtures and where I can pick them up?

Starting to think this tree project might get out of control and might just scrap the whole deal. I'm at 700W right now and that will put me over 1000W which is a little risky. Also, if these T5s arn't going to make good bud near the bottom of the plant then whats the point? It was a good idea but I'm thinkin I might just turn it into another regular flowering box, and use that as a backup when my plants get a little too tall for their boxes.
