Id just toss it into the soil, but to each their own. 9w cfl wont be enough for it though. it will get you through the first week or two but not much more. 3-4 13w-23w cfl's should be enough for one plant. get a mix of 6500k and 2700k lights

Hey man, get a shot glass and put luke warm water in it and drop the seed in. It will pop in a few days and when it does plant it into watever medium you are going to use. 100% success rate with this method for me.

1/ Don't plant your expensive seed in cheap potting mix. Buy or mix some good soil.
2/ you'll need more lights in a couple of weeks as has been stated

Hiya Xcreator, and Welcome to R.I.U. pop her in a cup of water(and cover), make sure water is room Temp(warm-ish but not cold)..IF after 12 hrs no sign of Life use a tuppa-ware container with lid, lay a couple of sheets of Kitchen paper inside container, wet a little with room temp water and place seed on paper, cover with another couple of sheets..pop lid on(But don't seal it) then place on top of say your Fridge(outside) at the back where the Heat of Elements raises(and cover, don't need light yet)..check a few hrs later. Keep Kitchen paper in container moist(not wet through) Other peeps do in different ways..but works for me 99% success rate so far this way..When you see a Tap-Root(3-4mm) Or even just cracking the shell Pop her into the medium you are going to use.(Tweezers,be careful of pressure)

9w is not nearly enough, will be Ok at 3-4" away for like maybe first week at most...
I Think you need at least 50w(True) per Plant is Rule of Thumb, some peeps say 100w...
If you go soil/compost way(can be very forgiving) but do steer clear of Cheapo Compost...and maybe use Seedling compost in small Pot 1st...then after a couple of weeks into a bigger Pot with lots of Perlite mixed into the Compost/Soil Mix.

Once your Lady is say? 3-4cm I tap(gently) on the top of stem...causes little tears in the plants, which repair and encourage strong stalk/stem development(Sturdy plant)

1 gal = 4.5Ltr and I think most folk go with say 1gal for every month of Life cycle...depends on how long you gonna Veg her for??

Peace

how long do you leave your beans in the shot glass? like...up to a few days or do you just plant after so many hours?

xcreator welcome to RIU!
paper method seems to be almost surgery to me after they're to where they need to be...i like the drop 'em in water and then to soil. currently, i only leave them soaking for 24 hours...but am needing to change that up myself since i'm too hot now and drying up in soil fast.
good luck on your grow! :weed: here's hoping your one bean pops for you!! 8-)

It will take it a few days to pop. After the first day if the seed is still floating in the shot glass give it a push under the water and try and have it sitting on the bottom of the shot glass. Mine have always popped in 2-3 days.

Do not over water!!!

Stick your finger into the soil down about an inch; if dry, water! (About to your first knuckle)
